About IB Middle Office
The Investment Bank Middle Office (IBMO) is a cross functional and cross business organisation that operates as a control function over the Sales and Trading while providing a service and additional controls to the IB Infrastructure teams (Product Control, Financial Control in Finance, Credit and market Risk, Compliance and Operations).

Middle Office performs the "Business as Usual" checks and controls and works alongside aforementioned partners to ensure Front to Back Integrity and ensures that clean data moves downstream.



Overall purpose of role

  • Director for IB Middle Office, based in Singapore, supporting APAC regional business, with a focus on Macro and Credit businesses.
  • Be able to lead and develop a team of strong performers in a fast paced environment
  • Ensure processing is of the highest standard, whilst meeting agreed SLAs, and being mindful of risk, efficiency, budget and personal conduct.
  • Ensure quality T0 and EOD controls and transactional support to meet the demands of the business, clients and regulators across APAC jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate effectively with regional and global IBMO asset class leads to deliver on the IBMO strategy, including but not limited to optimising Trade Controls and Lifecyle Management on Strategic platforms, driving standardisation of T0 EOD controls, supporting regulatory change, business growth and driving continuous improvement through strategic automation and RPA.
Key Accountabilities
  • Business partner to peer infrastructure groups like Finance, Risk, Technology and key contributor in working with these infrastructure teams to achieve business objectives
  • Representative for Asia Macro Credit MO globally, working with stakeholders and senior leadership team across regions to ensure engagement and agreement on global execution and providing inputs on Asia nuances
  • Responsible executive for risk and control oversight for all functions across Asia Macro Credit Middle Office
  • Lead the team in ensuring that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards
  • Act as Senior Signatory and Approver for the Asia Macro Credit MO organisation
  • Governance oversight of Asia Macro Credit MO around management of issues, incidents, and key performance indicators
  • Ensure that the appropriate governance and control standards are applied consistently across the function
  • Coordinate with operational teams in other functions and businesses to ensure best practice is shared
  • Driving financial opportunities, controls and supporting infrastructure (liaising with Finance and Technical colleagues)
  • Conflict resolution in a high-pressure environment
  • Interface where necessary with leading regulatory bodies across the geographic locations in which the division is present

  • Expert interpersonal and communications skills to influence the cross-functional groups/forums, the global matrix and external stakeholders. Primary point of contact for Business, global IBMO asset class leads, Finance, Compliance, Legal, Risk and Technology in the APAC region.
  • Understands the Business Strategy and is able to add-value at meetings and influence the outcome. Key contributor in working with infrastructure teams to deliver business objectives.
  • Track record of successfully delivering an excellent level of service in a large-scale, matrix organization whilst mindful of cost control agenda.

  • Ability to drive strategy, execute change and resolve issues. Ensure APAC nuances are clearly articulated, understood and taken into account for global initiatives.

  • Well versed in in the changing regulatory landscape for the respective asset classes and OTC derivatives and its impact on the firm and more specifically the Middle Office function for Singapore as well as the broader Asia Pacific. Ensure existing and new processes comply with regulatory requirements
  • Ability to define and drive continuous improvement of risk metrics to ensure operational risk is tracked and monitored successfully.

  • Ability to understand and analyse complex problems and execute a plan to deliver effective tactical and strategic solutions. Responsible for driving the team to deliver innovate operational solutions for increasingly complex business requirements and ensuring active participation in industry/regulatory initiatives.

  • Aptitude to operate at varying levels of detail (strategic to close attention) and able to prioritise key activities both regionally and globally.
Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
  • Deliver the highest standard of service to internal and external clients against agreed SLAs.
  • Proven track record in problem solving, process improvement, risk and control and client service.
  • Ensure that any risk undertaken is within agreed tolerance levels at all times.
  • Ability to identify, escalate and report risks and issues in the appropriate governance forums, including weekly global R&C meetings, weekly APAC management meeting, fortnightly Singapore IBMO R&C forum and monthly APAC Business R&C meeting with Business and other infrastructure stakeholders.
  • Ensure that you and your team uphold personal conduct in line with the Barclays Way and call out behaviours, actions or decisions that fall short of these standards or are inconsistent with our Values.

Person Specification

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification or above
  • Minimum 10 years experience in Investment Banking Operations or other relevant Financial Services
  • Possess ability to define and articulate strategic vision
  • Strong understanding and heavy emphasis on properly controlled risk and operating environment.
  • Well versed in the changing regulatory landscape and its impact on the firm and more specifically the Middle Office function
  • Must demonstrate strong technical skills and sound knowledge of operational front to back procedures that supports an IB Business,
  • Excellent direct team management skills and a proven track record of implementing change
  • Ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders and clients
  • Conversant in external market developments and initiatives
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and commitment to talent development
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge in data analytics, RPA tools e.g. Alteryx and other efficiency tools.
