What the role is:What the role isAbout Heritage Conservation Centre, SingaporeThe National Heritage Board (NHB) preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore and the Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is an institution of NHB. It is a purpose-built facility for the storage and conservation of the National Collection comprising artworks and artefacts. Its mission is to care for, manage and facilitate access to the National Collection.What you will be working onPaper, Photograph and Digital Media (PPDM) sectionWorking in close collaboration with the members of the Paper, Photograph and Digital media team, the essential job functions are described as follows:

  • Carry out conservation assessments, documentation and treatments on artworks and artefacts under supervision for projects and exhibitions by the museums and institutions under NHB, Heritage Institutions and the Visual Arts Cluster.
  • Support preventive conservation work which includes but limited to mounting/framing of paper works and re-housing work for storage or exhibitions purposes.
  • Assist in the section\'s administrative duties, ranging from coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, minutes of meetings, report writing to procurement work as assigned.
  • Participate in conservation working groups based in HCC, conservation studies, research projects, outreach events or any other ah-hoc duties as assigned.
What we are looking for
  • Background in Conservation, with a speciality in conserving paper-based collection or Science /Humanities (Arts or History) from a recognised training institution.
  • Candidates without the relevant professional training and experience may also apply.
  • Able to carry out practical work with high degree of manual dexterity and aesthetic sensitivity.
  • Experience in handling multi-cultural materials with sensitivity and sound contextual judgements in applying conservation principles and practices, while working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders will be advantageous. Familiarity and experience with cultural materials from South-east Asia and Asia preferred and interest in conservation of contemporary art is welcomed
  • Strive to keep up to date with current conservation development through self-directed learning and training.
  • A strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and institutions. An effective communicator and enthusiastic networker who thrives in the highly collaborative, dynamic environment of a complex organization.
  • Ability to adapt in a multi-lingual and multi-racial environment.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
