What the role is:The Indian Heritage Centre is a young and vibrant cultural centre which preserves and creates awareness and appreciation of Singapore\'s diverse Indian heritage. Opened in 2015, the Indian Heritage Centre is already an important cultural node for the Indian community and a space for everyone to know more about the Indian community in Singapore.You would be involved in a wide range of important initiatives that will help to unlock the story of Singapore\'s Indian history. From speaking to a wide-range of community contributors, conducting primary research and assisting the curatorial and collections team to identify possible donations and collections that will enhance the national narrative, to working with youths and students to create awareness and appreciation.This is wide-ranging role covering various aspects of curation, storytelling, research and community engagement.   • Work closely with the IHC curatorial team in undertaking research, conceptualising and developing storylines and themes for permanent galleries and special exhibitions related to Singapore\'s Indian history and heritage.
  • Work closely with the IHC curatorial team to produce digital content.
  • Work closely with collections managers, conservators, designers and related parties to set up and project manage exhibitions
  • Active collaboration with other museum departments including digital, education, programming, marketing and philanthropy.
  • Conduct primary research through oral history and video documentation.
  • Ongoing research and publications, with active public engagement through lectures and tours.
What we are looking for:
  • Background in South Asian Studies, South Asian Art History/History or related social sciences, with a strong interest and specialisation in Singapore\'s Indian history.
  • Preferably at least two years of relevant research or curatorial work in a museum or higher research institution.
  • Good knowledge of and ability to use research repositories commonly used in research;
  • Good analytical and critical thinking abilities to formulate independent positions derived from published sources as well as archival materials;
  • Excellent research and writing abilities with proficiency in English. Proficiency in Tamil would be advantageous.
  • Excellent organisational, project management and inter-personal skills.
  • A strong team player who is able to work independently and with a team.
