Do you see the importance of ensuring appreciation and awareness of our heritage amongst future and current generations of Singaporeans?If you are, this might be the role for you.The Indian Heritage Centre is looking for an outreach and education officer to conceptualise and implement creative programmes and initiatives to increase awareness and appreciation of Singapore\'s diverse Indian heritage.The Indian Heritage Centre is a young heritage institution launched in 2015 that traces the history of the Indian and South Asian communities in the Southeast Asian region. Through year-round exhibitions, programmes and activities, it seeks to promote greater public awareness and appreciation of Indian heritage, arts and culture. It is housed in an iconic and unique building right in the heart of Little India and serves as a springboard for visitors to explore the sights, sounds and scents of the historical precinct.About the role

  • You will develop and implement outreach and educational programmes targeted at a wide variety of audiences. This includes schools from primary to higher institutes of learning, young adults, national servicemen, heartlanders and the general community.
  • You will exercise creativity to design community outreach and educational resources to promote greater awareness and appreciation of the IHC and Indian culture through fun, engaging and innovative ways.
  • You must be comfortable with working with a wide range of people as one of your key roles would be in developing partnerships. You will seek collaboration opportunities with public and private sector organisations (including schools, grassroots organisations, government agencies, etc.) to widen our community outreach. This includes developing strategic partnerships with MOE, schools and other community partners to provide learning and engagement opportunities.
  • As volunteers are key partners at IHC, you will work closely with our docent partners to build, cultivate and train a pool of dedicated and competent volunteers and docents for IHC.
  • You should also have an interest in looking at how to increase accessibility to different audiences. For example, you would design, manage and co-ordinate a series of senior and access initiatives at IHC.
  • In order to conceptualize and implement the various projects, you must be a strong project manager. You will need to prepare proposals, reports, manage your programme budgets and ensure scope and direction of educational and outreach projects are on track.
  • Other areas include:
  • Oversee and liaise with vendors/suppliers and partners in the areas of education and outreach
  • Supervise onsite and offsite educational programmes
  • Supervise interns, junior, temporary and/or outsourced staff who support outreach and education activities
  • Assist in other duties as assigned by the General Manager, IHC
Requirements
  • Background in History, Arts & Social Sciences, Education or other relevant disciplines with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience in heritage-related projects or education/outreach programmes.
  • Passion and interest in local and Indian history, culture and heritage
  • Effectively bilingual with proficiency in Tamil preferred (to liaise with Tamil-speaking stakeholders)
  • Possess research, negotiations, marketing, communications, networking and project management skills. Prior experience in digital communications or experience in rolling out digital projects is advantageous.
  • Creative, innovative and resourceful, willing to experiment in uncharted territory.
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently, yet be a good team player
  • Demonstrate initiative and drive, willingness to take on additional duties when required
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the versatility to adapt to changing needs of projects
  • Able to work outside of regular office hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
