A*STAR\'s Innovation & Enterprise Division was established in 2020 to strengthen A*STAR?s generation of economic & societal impact for Singapore. The 12 Industry Clusters in Enterprise are mapped to the 23 ITMs and are focused on developing research and innovation partnerships between industry and the Singapore research community, mangaging and commercialising A*STAR?s IP and technology portfolio, and encouraging spin-offs.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Consumer, Retail & Hospitality (CRH) Industry Cluster. The role emphasises on industry development for these 3 industry sectors, which combined employ 12% of Singapore?s workforce, sectors which are rebounding strongly from the pandemic.
The Assistant Head in this role will:
1. Report directly to the Deputy Director of CRH and together chart strategy for the cluster, manage cluster KPIs and drive engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
2. Identify key industry trends and work closely with other public agencies to devise strategies to leverage on the opportunities to build Singapore?s economy.
3. Build and leverage an ecosystem of industry partners, start-ups, academia, public agencies and industry associations to fuel the growth of the R&D and industry landscape in Singapore.
4. Leverage strong domain and industry knowledge to understand the industry?s aspirations and challenges and thereby design and execute differentiated strategies to shape the R&D for the sectors.
5. Identify promising local enterprises and work with them to design, build and own their own brand of products through innovation and differentiation.
6. Build trusted relationships with C-suite/management executives across the industry.
7. Engage with companies to understand their businesses ? product/service offerings, technology needs, business strategy and R&D roadmap.
8. Structure deals and facilitate partnerships between companies and researchers/research units, to bring in new investments, products, and jobs to Singapore\'s economy.
9. Work with A*STAR and Singapore\'s scientific units to understand their capabilities and relevance to companies.
10. Assess and manage A*STAR?s technology disclosures and IP portfolio in this space.
11. Manage licensing and commercialization efforts in this space.
Assistant Head (CRH) will be developed in a diverse and varied career, with skills in areas such as business development, marketing, intellectual property, legal, licensing, planning, policy, strategy, project management, leadership and a strong understanding of how to apply technology to make an impact.

With this role, you would play a key part in sustainability optimization for economic & environmental impact, with a focus on aiding Singapore?s Consumer, Retail and Hospitality industries.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
? Degree in Retail, Tourism, Engineering, Business management or a related Scientific field; an MBA, or Masters/PhD is useful but not necessary.
? 4 - 8 years of working experience in retail, food, hospitality, tourism, or business management; is useful but not necessary.
? A background in research, commercial or product design/development would be useful, but not necessary.
? What is necessary is a motivated self-starter, full of initiative and driven to pursue a meaningful career by translating technology to make a difference in industry, society and Singapore\'s economy.
? Good track record or prior experience in strategy development and implementation of strategies are desired.
? A strong interest in technology and startups and to engage with entrepreneurs and innovators.
? Able to appreciate and quickly understand new technologies and provide market assessment and their potential to be applied in different business context.
? Broad vision of science and technology, able to handle diverse technical topics beyond one?s direct field of education and experience, and excellent awareness of emerging trends.
? Effective and thoughtful communicator and presentor.
? Strong organisational and administrative skills.
? Must be resourceful, full of initiative, able to work with minimal supervision, both independently and in a team.
? Willing, adaptable and flexible to take on required/necessary tasks beyond JD.
? A leader, a self-starter and problem solver who can proactively address any situation.
? Able to contextualise stakeholder issues, and manage them appropriately.
? Able to construct and deliver well thought presentations and contextualise the objectives and articulate the journey clearly, whilst addressing the requirements of various stakeholders.
