Job Description


To support administrative, technical activities, including operation of all research equipment and to ensure the smooth and safe functioning of the laboratory in enabling the faculty, research staff and students to accomplish their academic and research activities effectively and efficiently as well as in compliance with all rules and regulations of governmental agencies. Responsibilities Leadership

  • Lead and manage teaching and research activities in the Lab.
  • Coach and manage Senior Executive, Laboratory.
Laboratory Operations
  • Support the daily laboratory activities for research purposes.
  • Guide students and researchers on the usage of equipment’s and software in the laboratory.
  • Ensure School’s policies and operational procedures are implemented
Management of Lab
  • Produce Standard operation procedures for new equipment and design new experimental set-ups
  • Ensure teaching and research equipment are always in working condition - with calibration and certification from authorized examiners as required by MOM and SCDF
  • Provide technical advice and support on specialized equipment
  • Ensure good lab governance and safe house keeping
Financial Management
  • Manage the annual budget given to the lab.
  • Ensure budget allocated is well managed.
Procurement, inventory, and capitalization of asset Management
  • Procure assets or consumables in compliance with university’s procurement policies
  • Maintain proper records for assets and ensure all assets are accounted for during audits.
  • Maintain good record of assets transfer, disposal of assets according to Nanyang Shared Services policies
  • Oversee inventory of supplies and equipment needed for daily operation of the lab to ensure teaching and research activities can be carried out as scheduled.
Safety and Security
  • Enforce compliance to ensure safety and ISO 45001:2018 regulations are implemented.
  • Review Risk assessment or RA and Safe Work Procedures or SWP in line with ISO 45001:2018 requirements and ensure all RA and SWP are duly executed
  • Ensure lab’s access is secured and house rules are followed
Requirements
  • Minimum Degree in Mechanical/Chemical engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience or Diploma in Mechanical/Chemical engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • At least 3 to 5 years of working experience in an academic environment and a mechanical/chemical environment based lab
  • Knowledge in the handling of engines/powerplant or chemicals (hazardous as in corrosive, carcinogenic, irritant/flammable/toxic etc)
  • Familiar with risk management procedure
  • Some financial management skills to facilitate budget preparation
  • Able to use Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of workplace safety including ISO 45001:2018
  • Knowledge of government procurement policies is preferred
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • A hands-on person and enjoys working in an academic/research environment
  • Highly motivated and customer oriented
  • Able to work independently and a good team player
