Assistant Professor (Occupational Health), Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health



The National University of Singapore - the top ranked university in Asia - is recruiting full-time Practice Track faculty at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor ranks for the Centre for Environmental & Occupational Health (CEOH), Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. The positions are non-tenure-track appointments with a standard teaching load but with a focus on developing, leading, and implementing programmes and projects. While research is not part of the core terms of reference, research opportunities exist and are supported. In addition to an attractive salary and benefits package, new faculty members are eligible for subsidised university accommodation.

The School has a small Occupational Health (OH) programme with an Occupational Health track within the MPH Programme and hosts the only Occupational Medicine Residency programme in Singapore. Our focus areas are on the occupational health of workers and health promotion at the workplace. The School was instrumental in designing the Total Workplace Safety & Health programme, which is currently being rolled out as the national approach to comprehensive workplace health. The School is also designated as a WHO Collaborating Center for Occupational Health.

The focus for the new faculty will be on OH educational activities (at all levels - undergraduate, postgraduate, and lifelong learning), OH policy advocacy at the national level, regional outreach in ASEAN, and capacity-building programmes in collaboration with various Asian countries.

Professionals and faculty experienced in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

  • Occupational health and safety
  • Workplace health promotion and corporate health management
  • Teaching of students and professionals in workplace risk control strategies and health programmes
  • Development of innovative national or corporate strategies and interventions in workplace health
  • Evaluation of and implementation research on workplace programmes and projects including economic analyses
  • Experience in research on prevention and control of exposures of working populations or surrounding communities as well as health promotion programmes
Job Requirements
  • Recognised doctoral degree in a relevant discipline with a strong post-doctoral professional and/or academic record; OR qualified medical professional with postgraduate specialisation in occupational health, occupational medicine, or preventive medicine.
  • Experience in developing, leading, implementing and evaluating projects and programmes
  • Ability to teach courses at all levels (undergraduate, graduate, and lifelong learners)
  • Experience in adult education
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work with and teach culturally diverse audiences
An ability to generate an independent stream of project funding, and/or a track record in research and publishing on relevant topics are additional advantages.
