This role is based in Singapore, it will report to the Head of Department for Japan, Australia-New Zealand, Regionals within P&C Underwriting in Asia-Pacific.

You will join a powerful team of seasoned senior treaty underwriters and boost the underwriting resources that we dedicate to three critical segments of our P&C portfolio in Asia-Pacific: Japan, Australia \xe2\x80\x93 New Zealand, and Regional accounts.

The team works in a fast-pace environment and demanding market, providing a quality and timely service to our brokers and clients. You will be expected to learn and grow your skills fast, with the aim to rapidly progress to an Underwriter role by demonstrating the skills, capabilities and autonomy required to become a Treaty Underwriter and take responsibility of several clients across the portfolio, working across P&C classes of business.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist and contribute to the underwriting process by supporting, developing and monitoring a technically sound and profitable portfolio. This includes:
  • Pricing work in coordination with Pricing Actuaries and Cat Modellers
  • Underwriting analysis for internal referral to senior management
  • Contract review in coordination with Wordings specialists
  • Maintain and develop trusted relationships with brokers and clients within your markets.
  • Understand the needs of your brokers & clients; devise, articulate and negotiate solutions which fit our underwriting objectives and requirements.
  • Interact effectively with other units and departments such as, Accounting, Claims, Contract Analysts, Wording Specialists, as well as the Catastrophe Modelling and Cat Research team.
  • Contribute to various market analysis studies, primarily for Asia Regional, Australia, New Zealand and Japanese markets.
Qualifications

You possess a university degree in Business, Economics or Actuarial Science and are attracted by roles which blend technical/quantitative aspects, commercial/social aspects and negotiation in a challenging, fast-pace, high-pressure environment.

You have an initial experience in insurance or reinsurance and you are motivated to start/develop a career in treaty reinsurance underwriting.

You like working with figures, have a strong analytical mind and are keen to apply it to solve business problems. In addition, you have strong social skills and you enjoy building and developing relationships both within the organisation as well as across the wider industry. You are a fast learner, you think critically to solve problems under time pressure and your growth mindset allows you to thrive under challenge.

Accordingly, you bring along the following background, skills and mindset:
  • Up to 3 years of experience in non-life (re)insurance roles (could include internships, depending on their content), which may include underwriting/analysis, pricing, modelling, risk management work
  • Ability to think strategically, to problem-solve, to effectively assess risk and make solid data-driven decisions
  • Attention to detail, analytical mindset served by strong numerical skills;
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel is a must; mastering other quantitative environment/languages is a plus
  • Detail-oriented and excellent organisational skills; good at time management
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal) is required, proficiency in Chinese and Japanese is a plus
  • Solid social skills and effective at collaboration work, both externally with business partners and internally with colleagues and management
