An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented lawyer with a passion for digital media and internet-based distribution models to join Rakuten Viki\xe2\x80\x99s global legal team based in Singapore. Responsibilities will include: advising business units and stakeholders on legal and risk management issues; supporting the roll-out of new product features and innovations; drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation and contracts; working with internal/external counsel; implementation of corporate policies and procedures; and providing day-to-day support to the business on a breadth of compliance, privacy, and legal matters related to Rakuten Viki\xe2\x80\x99s worldwide business operations. We are looking for a pro-active and decisive Associate Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs who is resourceful, a strong team player, and possesses excellent organisational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills. The ability to work cross-functionally and effectively under pressure, and the willingness to learn, deal with ambiguity, and inform others, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is essential.
Requirements:
Law degree (LLB, JD or equivalent)
Minimum 2 to 3 years of relevant legal experience with exposure to a range of commercial contracts related to media, intellectual property, and/or technology.
Qualified to practice law in Singapore and/or US (may consider other jurisdictions if strong experience)
Excellent communication, drafting and negotiation skills in English
Self-motivated, a high degree of independence, and have a desire and ability to pitch in, be challenged and think outside the box
Comfortable working with international teams, and across job functions and levels
Good problem-solving skills (i.e. the ability to identify and consider critical key issues, and assess and articulate legal risks so the business can make informed commercial decisions)
The ability to strike the appropriate balance between risk, regulatory compliance and business needs
Preferred Qualification:
Have worked in-house at an international media, technology or internet company
Experience in content acquisition/distribution, OTT, intellectual property, technology licensing, advertising, consumer-related compliance and regulatory regimes, data protection and privacy frameworks (including GDPR and CCPA), and/or consumer protection
A commercially astute business-partner
Strong project and people management skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with multiple stakeholders to roll-out initiatives, close deals, and resolve issues
