An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented disputes lawyer with a passion for digital media, technology and internet-based distribution models to join Rakuten Viki\xe2\x80\x99s global legal team based in Singapore. The role\xe2\x80\x99s primarily responsibilities would include providing counsel and support for dispute resolution and prevention on a cross-border basis; taking the lead with commercial litigation, investigations, arbitration and mediation case management; liaising with internal/external counsel and experts; advising business units and stakeholders on legal and risk factors associated with litigation. The role will also have a chance to work on other matters including drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation and contracts (covering areas such technology procurement, advertising, commercial partnerships and content licensing); assisting and advising on privacy and other risk management issues; assisting with risk assessments, audits and remediation; and providing day-to-day support to the business on a breadth of compliance and legal matters related to Rakuten Viki\xe2\x80\x99s worldwide business operations. This is an excellent opportunity to gain global and broader experience in a variety of legal areas within the burgeoning video streaming industry.
We are looking for a pro-active Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs who is resourceful, a strong team player, and possesses excellent organisational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills. The ability to work cross-functionally and effectively under pressure, and the willingness to learn, deal with ambiguity, and inform others, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is essential.
Requirements:
Law degree (LLB, JD or equivalent)
4 to 5 years PQE with strong disputes experience (e.g. litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations) preferably across a range of areas of law and jurisdictions
Qualified to practice law in Singapore and/or US (may consider other jurisdictions if strong experience)
Excellent communication, drafting and negotiation skills in English with attention to detail
Self-motivated, a high degree of independence, and have a desire and ability to pitch in, be challenged and think outside the box
Comfortable working with international teams, and across job functions and levels
Well organised and strong case management skills
Strong problem-solving skills (i.e. the ability to identify and consider critical key issues, and assess and articulate legal and risks so the business can make informed commercial decisions)
The ability to be pragmatic and strike the appropriate balance between risk (legal and reputational), regulatory compliance and business needs
Preferred Qualification:
Have worked in-house at an international media, technology or internet company
Experience in content acquisition/distribution, OTT, intellectual property (copyright and patents), technology licensing, advertising, consumer-related compliance and regulatory regimes, data protection and privacy frameworks (including GDPR and CCPA) and consumer protection
A commercially astute business-partner
Strong project and people management skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with multiple stakeholders to roll-out initiatives, close deals, and resolve issues
