Job Description


Role Responsibilities

  • The purpose of the role is to partner Relationship Managers and Product Partners to engage priority corporate clients on capital structure insights to further origination efforts. Scope of this engagement can include covering tactical positioning with debt investors to minimise cost of capital raise, funding and liquidity considerations and managing volatility through mitigating regional risk exposure and quantifying inefficiencies amongst others.
  • Capital Structure Advisory is responsible for proactive idea generation and product-independent solution development as well as for pitch coordination, delivery and follow up.
Strategy

Responsibilities will be focused on partnering Client Coverage to deliver (and leverage) insightful and content led client dialogue. More specifically, this will entail:
  • Providing well researched, reasoned and presented analysis around potential or actual client situations (leveraging financial modelling where appropriate), including through reviewing bespoke capital structure options, assessing working capital approaches, estimating debt capacity (under defined hypothesis) and the presenting of peer analysis (inter alia)
  • Assisting in identifying the needs of clients and potential solutions in response to these needs, in partnership with all relevant internal stakeholders
  • Providing relevant and insightful input into (often multi-product) client pitches and discussions to enhance client relationships
  • Jointly delivering relevant pitches with Coverage and others, ensuring nuanced communication of storyline, to maximise client impact and to facilitate effective follow up
  • Actively engaging with clients, establishing a role as a trusted partner / thought leader in respect of areas of team competence
Business

In addition to the strategic responsibilities detailed above, responsibilities include:
  • Active participation in account planning, regular dialogue with clients, as well contribution to an array of business initiatives
  • The coaching and support of others in the team, and beyond where appropriate
Processes
  • In partnership with Coverage, participate in conversations with clients to understand their needs and discuss the needs-based strategy and related opportunities, transactions, pricing issues etc.
  • Where required, support Coverage with the proactive engagement in internal deal teams (all relevant product and functional partners) for complex transactions. Ensure all sensitive deal information is managed and treated confidentially.
  • Understand and be able to articulate the overall strategy for clients.

  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations, in collaboration with risk and control partners where appropriate
Risk Management
  • Take the initiative regarding regulatory, reputational and ethical matters, not only responding to requests for advice, but where appropriate taking the initiative in volunteering advice the need for which may not have been appreciated.

  • Maintain a current catalogue of work in progress and completed work, using team-agreed tools and approaches.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 4+ years of experience in Banking Industry.
  • Previous experience of a similar role, in a leading commercial and/or investment banking environment. To include: experience of addressing capital structure relevant topics with corporate clients from both a practical and a theoretical standpoint.
  • Strong analytical ability, with a proven ability to translate clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs into business opportunities and to serve as a \xe2\x80\x9ctrusted advisor/partner\xe2\x80\x9d to and advocate for clients.
  • Understanding of investment and commercial banking organisational design and a demonstrated ability to \xe2\x80\x98navigate\xe2\x80\x99 to achieve client delivery in a safe and sound manner.
  • Developed and broad experience in banking across multiple business segments, focused particularly on SCB\xe2\x80\x99s product set and footprint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to work across cultures and within a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to appropriately \xe2\x80\x98manage\xe2\x80\x99 demands from peers and superiors.
  • Capable of holding a credible Board level dialogue with clients.
  • Genuine team-based approach to making the organisation work for the business.
  • Comfortable with an advisory/structuring role with significant client contact.
