Job Description


The Role Responsibilities

  • In line with the Open account growth strategy, we are adding new capabilities enabling us to provide market need based solutions. Buyer underwriting either on a single credit or on a portfolio basis is a proposition we are looking to build. This will complement our existing capability in the receivables purchase solutions in increasing the market and mitigating risks. We seek experienced, energetic and dynamic Analysts or underwriters who have detailed knowledge of risk analysis/ credit underwriting and related models/processes who has the ambition to build a new proposition. Knowledge of the Receivables Services product and market would be beneficial. Growing the business and maintain risk control are key to succeed in this role. This role will be a new vertical within the Structured Solutions Development team (SSD) and is a key part of the Trade and Working Capital business of the bank.
  • The SSD team is responsible for designing, negotiating, structuring and delivering non-vanilla / bespoke solutions to our client base using a range of products within SCB and from external partners, as appropriate. This team engages/consults with clients on their bespoke or complex needs and provides solutions which are customised. This team builds client specific solutions which may be widely adopted in the future (whilst Sales is about delivering/marketing today\'s product which are flow based in nature), working with clients whose needs are more complex and for whom there may be no readily available product on the shelf.
Strategy
  • Build a market leading team which has the knowledge of industry/clients and risk management
  • Develop and implement processes to underwrite risks for single obligors or a portfolio of names (which may not be clients of the bank). Information (financial and non financial) may need to be sourced from multiple sources to have effective risk underwriting and control
  • Easy2bank or simplified processes which enable quick closure of opportunities and enabling scale will be a key tenet of the operating process
  • Based on the experience help the global head define strategy for the function globally - which creates a uniform identity and experience for our clients and account for the regional nuances.
Financial Management - Product P/L Management
Deliver budget, through active management of:
  • Revenue (existing and new revenue streams) [FY 2023-25 $.. M]
  • Value and Number of underwritten transactions
  • Risk control on overdues and process/model to ensure these are within specified limits.
  • Ongoing proactive risk management
  • Time to underwrite transactions
Processes
  • The candidate would be primarily responsible for developing, maintaining and managing the Credit risk associated with the portfolio and ensuring high quality of the portfolio. This includes, drafting scorecards and BCA\'s for approval by the Credit Approvers, managing ongoing quality of portfolio, producing exception reports, review credit extending across entire portfolio to ensure consistency of approach
  • The candidate will also be work closely with the relevant client RMs/Credit Analysts, product managers, Middle office teams, operations and risk functions for origination and coverage of a portfolio & play a vital role in deal structuring to add good value from a credit / policy perspective as well as facilitate revenue growth in the portfolio.
  • End to end process management for the underwritten portfolio - from identifying needs, structuring to term-sheet and credit approvals in conjunction with the deal team leader. Coordinate inputs and approvals from internal stakeholders on transactions.
  • Provide insights in relation to an industry sector, client information
  • Evaluate learning around exception cases and seek to share this with other team members to help properly capture risk profiles and ensure robust credit analysis or model tweaks
  • Assist, train and mentor Junior Analysts/underwriters, Interns and International Graduates
  • Assist other team members on ad-hoc projects / deals etc. as and when required.
People & Talent
  • Demonstrate leadership in the team (even where there is no direct reporting lines) by providing expert guidance to the Director level transactors, in identifying opportunities/ solutions for clients, mitigating risks and articulating effectively to risk teams, ensuring process risk issues are identified and minimised.
  • Using the broad expertise influence sales and product teams to deliver the priorities
Risk Management
  • To be able to articulate to the Deal, risk and other relevant teams on the most optimal way to enable a quick solution, mitigate its risks and how it helps in a wider investor participation for a financing where required.
  • Has comprehensive or wide knowledge of legal aspects linked to an instrument, debt, security in the relevant jurisdictions; local regulations and initiatives of local industry bodies to stay ahead of the regulatory change agenda and/or how it affects the solutions.
  • Has solid financial analysis and is able to translate external financials into financials spreads based on the bank\'s scorecards.
  • Takes the initiative regarding regulatory, reputational and ethical matters by providing proactive advice to clients and sales teams
  • Ensures adherence with the highest standards of ethics, and compliance with relevant policies, processes and regulations
  • Ensure appropriate inputs are incorporated in Deal Review / transaction Memo/ BCA / Term sheet
  • Actively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk and compliance matters for the region, in a timely manner
Governance
  • Demonstrate accountability for all product related risks for deals and solutions executed for clients in the region by ensuring the right governance standards are applied and provides guidance even when there is ambiguity
  • Ensure timely, accurate and transparent renewal of facilities of clients.
  • Identifies and mitigates operational, credit, regulatory, legal, fraud and risks in a transaction.
  • Evaluates current processes or solutions via a business Conduct lens.
  • Ensures the relevant approvals (including compliance with relevant deal review guidelines) for a transaction or client engagement are sought and can be produced for an audit review at any point in time
  • Takes the lead to ensure compliance, AML and FCC risk and applies appropriate risk mitigation processes.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Excellent analytical skills, with proven ability to interpret, analyse and present information
  • 7+ years experience in banking/financial industry
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to manage multiple stakeholders across Industry, Product and Risk
  • Strong Credit and business strategy skills, with experience in managing large global clients or product teams
  • Self-confident person with a high level of drive, dedication, pride and exceptional attention to detail and a team player
  • Degree or post graduate qualified from a top-tier school
