Job Description

About the role:

An associate equity analyst is an entry level role to equity research. The associate will primarily support analysts in Asia covering the industrials, healthcare, utilities, energy and resources industries. Assistance includes helping to undertake industry research, help build spreadsheet models and update information as needed. The candidate must be fluent in both English and Mandarin and possess strong English-writing skills.

Job responsibilities:

1. Assist analysts to produce value-added research that encompasses both the determination of a fair value estimate and a thorough examination of the company\xe2\x80\x99s competitive position.
2. Help analysts build and maintain valuation models on coverage companies primarily utilizing Morningstar\xe2\x80\x99s discounted cash flow based valuation model.
3. Support team activities as needed including working on pre-deal research reports and backing up the editor to summarize equity research released by the Asian Equity Research team for Morningstar\xe2\x80\x99s global equity sales team.
4. Reach out to Morningstar\xe2\x80\x99s global research team to share ideas and information so that the team is kept informed of any relevant industry developments.

Qualifications:

1. Be able to communicate well in English and Chinese with strong English writing skills.
2. Minimum of bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree. The candidate should be able to think critically, independently and with attention to detail and the facts.

Nice to have:

1. Japanese language skills.
2. Be passionate about looking at stocks from a long term, valuation-based perspective and have an appreciation for the economic moat concept.
