[What the role is]

You will be part of the Sports Business & Partnerships team charged with formulating strategies, implementing initiatives and collaborations to grow the Sports Tourism sector in line with STB\xe2\x80\x99s aim of promoting economic growth through tourism.

[What you will be working on]

1. Management of event accounts

Overall responsibility for STB-funded sports events under officer\xe2\x80\x99s portfolio. Specific areas of responsibility include:

a) Grant Evaluation and Administration

  • Develop sound justifications for grant business case and grant size recommendations.
  • Guide stakeholder through funding application process.
  • Negotiate with and liaise with grant applicant on project business model, KPIs and other grant structure details such as qualifying cost support level and disbursement.
  • Oversee administration of grant offer and disbursement of funding.
b) Project and Stakeholder Management
  • Monitor project milestones by working closely with stakeholders, including event/project organisers, promoters, rights owners, venue owners and government partners, on event planning and execution.
  • Structure cogent pre- and post- reports for management for internal accounting and reporting purposes.
  • Provide input on stakeholders\xe2\x80\x99 event and/or product business plans, including ticketing strategy, overseas marketing, fan engagement activities.
  • Manage requests from stakeholders, including rejecting irrelevant ones, while maintaining goodwill and a positive relationship.
c) Content Development
  • Work closely with event organisers, promoters, rights owners, venue owners and government partners to deliver compelling and engaging events; and to develop relevant lifestyle content to extend the value proposition and augment the main event. These include city activation initiatives, virtual/hybrid components etc that are aimed at generating public interest and increasing the buzz around the event.
d) Marketing and Trade Partnerships
  • Guide stakeholders to adopt, develop and refine marketing and ticketing plans, based on various sources of input such as consumer studies, key data and trends, to maximize tourism returns and enhance the regional appeal of the event. This would entail working closely with relevant trade partners and STB regional offices, to enable the stakeholder to drive strong and innovative collaborations in target markets, develop effective PR messages and execute marketing activities to drive foreign attendance for the event.
2. Strategy and Business Development
  • Conduct desktop research and work closely with industry stakeholders to identify pertinent trends and developments in the global sporting industry (e.g. emerging sports, growing commitment to sustainability) and stay updated on relevant sporting news.
  • Identify major sporting events/properties with a strong tourism upside that can be staged in Singapore and to engage and cultivate those business leads.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop strategic homegrown events/properties, with the long-term aim of scaling up these events and including ancillary activities to maximise growth and the tourism ROI.
  • Identify sporting Ips and opportunities beyond events, e.g. experiences/offerings/attractions, that can be anchored in Singapore to support STB\xe2\x80\x99s sports tourism ambitions.
3. Industry Development
  • Guide identified stakeholders to build and hone core competencies such as content and experience development/delivery, operations management, tech/digital capabilities etc.
  • Educate event organisers on the availability of STB\xe2\x80\x99s self-help digital transformation tools e.g. TIH, STAN.
[What we are looking for]
  • Interest and knowledge in the sports industry.
  • Excellent time and project management abilities.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with stakeholders, including government agencies.
  • Ability to identify, analyse and synthesise information to anticipate issues, such as potential showstoppers or limitations for sporting events/projects, and make effective decisions.
  • Business acumen to evaluate business plans and be well attuned to the needs and concerns of key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors, while preserving STB\xe2\x80\x99s interests.
  • Strong communications and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Possess strategic agility, in particular the linkages between sporting events/projects and whole-of-government economic strategies.
  • Good language and writing skills.
  • Financial literacy along with strong numerical analytical skills.
  • Experience working with Government agencies and/or Inter-Ministry project teams.
  • Experience working in the sports industry, in areas such as sponsorship, business development, operations and/or broadcast
  • Showing good business acumen, analytical thinking and judgement
  • Working effectively within STB to achieve results
  • Working effectively with stakeholders outside STB
  • Serving with heart, commitment and purpose
  • Being innovative and learning continuously
