The Role Responsibilities
About the Team
The FM Digital Channels (aka Blade) team is responsible for cross-product transactional pricing of derivatives within Standard Chartered. The culture in the team is open, intellectual, and fun. The Key Responsibilities

  • As an Engineering Manager , your main function is to support several lead developers and assume full ownership for the success of the teams and initiatives they run, as well as their career development.
  • Based in Singapore and working within a dynamic global team, you will assist the head of development as a regional deputy and will be the single point of escalation for all the developers and stakeholders in the region.
  • As well as ensuring successful delivery of new functionality, you will need to keep production stability always in focus, manage regional Level 3 support rota, and ensure the teams are achieving high standard of production support.
Strategy
  • Contribute to the definition of the platform technical roadmap and ensure the teams\' adherence to it. Relentlessly clarify the strategic direction to the teams. Proactively work to inspire, enable, and unblock progress in the right direction.
Business
  • Take ownership for the delivery effectiveness of several Agile development squads. Build effective and trusting relationships with all team members and stakeholders. Provide technical leadership, primarily at the level of architecture, system design, supportability, product, and service delivery processes. Empower the teams to make the right decisions; and ensure the trade-offs between the time to market and strategic alignment are always conscious and documented. Take ownership for and drive the delivery of large and complex platform-wide initiatives and issue remediations.

  • Coach the teams to deliver the best value they can to the customers by implementing and continuously improving their development processes. Take ownership for a number of critical organization-wide processes, measure and report their effectiveness, and facilitate continuous improvement.
People & Talent
  • Support the technical team leaders of those teams as people manager. Set SMART goals, manage individual performance, support their careers progression. Coach them to become the best team leaders they can be.

  • Head of Development, Head of Programme Delivery, Squad Technical Leads, Scrum Masters, Project Managers, QA Leads, Business Product Owners, other Engineering Managers, Platform Architect.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 8+ years of experience leading multi-discipline development teams and delivering complex projects
  • Experience managing people
  • Extensive experience developing financial software
  • Financial Markets domain knowledge in derivatives and/or cash products
  • Empathetic leader who loves coaching and mentoring, and had successfully helped others progress their careers within the organization
  • Proactive self-starter who enjoys cracking complex and ambiguous problems - organisational as well as technical
  • Enthusiastic collaborator who enjoys working with people, identifying and resolving conflicts, and growing the organisation as a whole
  • Good communicator, fluent in Business Communication (speaking and writing
  • Technologist with keen eye for design of distributed systems and software design principles
  • Experience with micro-services and container technologies: Docker, Helm, OpenShift, Kubernetes,
  • Experience working with complex multi-modular Web UI applications,
  • Familiarity with Web UI technologies: TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Redux, AG Grid, Jest, Storybook, HTML, CSS, RX JS, WebSocket, REST, Node, Webpack, Yarn, NGINX,
  • Familiarity with Spring Web, RX Java, Messaging, Streaming, Apache Kafka, Cassandra, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, Configuring CI/CD Pipelines
  • Familiarity with monitoring & support tools: Monitoring, Prometheus, ELK stack, Kibana,
  • Experience building and supporting latency sensitive systems,
  • Experience building large-scale Single Dealer Portal or Sales Dealer platforms.
Role Specific Technical Competencies
  • Proven experience enabling teams to make the right decisions, and ensuring the right balance between meeting the targets and delivering quality software
  • Experience establishing and continuously improving the Agile delivery process
  • Experience building distributed event-driven systems
  • Familiarity with Java and Spring Framework
  • Familiarity with Web UI development
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps
