Job Description


What the role is:Lead the Applied Biological Research Team, Applied Chemical Research Team, and Partnership Management Team in the Applied Research and Collaboration Branch (ARBC) to (i) strategise and develop research needs and conduct food regulatory science research projects to manage emerging food safety risks; (ii) drive strategic scientific collaborations and partnerships locally, regionally and internationally to lead to the advancement of food safety regulatory science capabilities.Reporting to Director/Research Exposure and Science Department (RESD), the successful candidate will:

  • Identify and develop strategies and workplans to advance food regulatory science research and development, including translation of results to inform policy-making and operations
  • Provide scientific leadership, mentorship and guidance to ensure the progress and outcome of all research and development projects undertaken by the Biological and Chemical Research Teams
  • Identify and obtain resources for implementation of research and development plans
  • Supervise the implementation of governance and quality frameworks, working together with the relevant Team Leads, to manage areas of organisational risk, quality and reliability of the scientific outputs from Biological and Chemical Research Teams.
  • Oversee Partnership Management Team to develop and drive strategic partnerships and engagements with key local, regional and international stakeholders to build NCFS\' credibility and capability as a competent leader in food safety regulatory science
  • Contribute to cross-divisional scientific activities in SFA towards development and planning of food safety research agenda that supports the Singapore Food Story R&D programme.
  • Manage daily operations of ARCB including financial and procurement matters, manpower and resource allocation, and staff development.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in analytical chemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, food science or related fields.
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience in leading and managing chemical and/or biological research teams, proficient in laboratory and staff management, research project and grant management, and laboratory audit.
  • Good peer-review scientific publication and/or research grant application record in food safety science or related fields.
  • Familiar with the requirements of ISO 17025 accreditation, and/or international food safety standards would be an advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, resilient, and able to multitask.
