Team Structure

The firm\'s business development team focuses on three main areas: winning new business; building the firm\'s brand; and developing fee-earner marketing and pitching skills. This role would suit someone who is keen on being involved in the full range of Business Development activities. This will include advising and supporting partners and associates on the strategic direction of marketing, business development and client development activities, working on pitches and proposals, as well as leading on events, award and directory submissions, and communications.

The role is a 6-8 month maternity cover. You will be responsible for supporting the Business Development function across Singapore and Southeast Asia. You will report to the Regional Head of Business Development, Asia and be supported by a small team. The team in Singapore will also work closely with our Business Development colleagues in Greater China and the office manager in Seoul to integrate our practice areas and general marketing across the Asia-Pacific region.

Our Chief BD And Client Officer is based in London. You will be part of a wider network of Business Development and marketing professionals around the world responsible for Business Development, key client development, media relations, web and communications, events, and CRM.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic business planning (in conjunction with the Head of BD, Asia):

  • working with the office managing partner, practice group leads and other partners to develop a business plan and appropriate marketing activities to support objectives across all legal teams
  • ensure the execution of agreed activities and analysis of ROI
  • lead on the development and execution of 1-2 key cross-border and cross-practice regional initiatives, in line with our wider firm strategy
Client development: supporting the practice groups to continually enhance existing client relationships and identify growth opportunities with key clients

Pitch management and support: developing compelling bid responses for current or new practice work opportunities

Award and directory submissions: managing directories such as Legal 500, Chambers and other awards submission process and working closely with fee earners and secretaries to produce compelling submissions

Events: project managing client events across Southeast Asia

Communications: external and internal communications to enhance various practice group profiles

Brand ambassador:
  • to ensure that the format of marketing materials produced are in line with our brand guidelines
  • be a BD representative at practice group meetings to share BD best practices, market knowledge, client insights and current activities
Training:
  • provide BD mentoring support to new partners and senior associates as well as participants on the \'High Potential\' Senior Associate Programme
  • training and coaching PAs who are responsible for some of the administrative aspects of the webinars, seminars, events and client receptions
Team management: to manage the Business Development team in Singapore, ensuring efficiency and high-quality output
  • support the Head of Business Development, Asia in creating a \'community\' and sharing best practice across the regional BD team
  • oversee the review and continuous improvement of marketing materials, including capabilities statements, pitch templates, deals lists, website content (internal and external) and press releases
Other:
  • budget management
  • monitoring, analysis and sharing of market, industry and competitive trends for the groups within the Southeast Asia region
  • support in the coordination of the role out of, and subsequent engagement with, global initiatives such as areas of focus and key clients.
Attributes/Skills Required

We are looking for a graduate with relevant marketing and business development experience in a professional services firm. It would be ideal if the candidate also has proven managerial experience in a business-to-business environment.

  • Confident, robust, pragmatic, and easy to work with
  • A skilled written communicator with a good eye for detail and the ability to influence senior people in the business and develop relationships
  • Well-organised and someone who delivers what they promise to a consistently high standard of quality

  • A supportive and committed team player able to demonstrate experience of building a collaborative environment
  • Innovative and open to new ideas, with the ability to challenge where necessary
  • Commercially aware and knowledgeable and able to demonstrate that you consistently add value to business development thinking and activities
  • Good MS Word, PowerPoint skills
