Job Description


The APAC Markets Legal team is looking for an experienced lawyer to join the legal team supporting the Equity Derivatives Group business. The role involves working with a Tier-1 full-service equity derivatives team in APAC to support the structuring and execution of exotic and bespoke equity derivatives and proprietary index transactions from a legal perspective, including:

  • supporting the business in drafting and/or reviewing trade documentation of such equity derivatives transactions;
  • advising the business on legal and regulatory issues in respect of risk management and hedging structures in certain markets such as China, Taiwan and India;
  • advising management and other functional partners on legal, risk and regulatory issues generally;
  • where relevant, instructing and working with external counsel, reviewing and negotiating legal opinions and supervising legal due diligence involving the business and transactions;
  • developing and maintaining client and service provider relationships, co-coordinating with other risk management areas of JPMorgan, including the Compliance and Risk departments;
  • assisting in the review and development of legal forms, policies, procedures and systems;
  • participating in product and industry working group calls and meetings;
  • providing legal analysis in relation to new business initiatives and products; and
  • participating actively in Legal department initiatives and projects, including regulatory reviews and other projects.

Qualifications:
  • A qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction with minimum 8 years PQE and relevant experience gained at a reputable law firm.
  • Relevant in-house experience with comparable financial institutions not compulsory but will be viewed favorably.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong technical knowledge is essential and knowledge of and experience with OTC derivative documentation including ISDA documents, equity definitions, credit support documents and regional template confirmations, and general documents such as confidentiality agreements, term sheets and guarantees. NAFMII documentation knowledge is advantageous but not essential.
  • Pragmatic with an ability to strike the appropriate balance between achieving the commercial goals of the business while protecting the interests of J.P. Morgan as a whole.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with senior business personnel and stakeholders in other functions.
  • Self-directed and highly motivated attitude coupled with an ability to work effectively in a high performing team.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, project-manage and co-ordinate large projects, in a dynamic global environment.
  • Ability to apply technical product knowledge and experience to complex and innovative transactions and products.
  • Team player, confident and proactive with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Chinese (Mandarin) speaking, reading and writing skills will be advantageous.
  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.
  • Will consider law firm associates coming out of a derivatives & structured products practice.
  • Minimum of Bachelors degree or equivalent.

LICENSING:
  • Qualifications: JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
