Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitors Performance and Administers Security of Application Databases.

• Regularly monitors database usage and performance.
• Works with development team to proactively address performance issues, and to implement and maintain application security.
• Works with Release Coordinator to verify successful release of application changes.
• Works with Security Analyst to set up new database users and maintain user security and profiles.
• Takes direction from project team and balances priorities with team lead or senior developer.
• Contributes to development and project team meetings, as appropriate.
• Administers and Configures Databases.

• Reviews and sets database configurations.
• Works with development staff to unit test configuration changes prior to implementation.
• Monitors and maintains database server drive space.
• Implements and manages scheduled jobs.
• Performs database software patches and upgrades.
• Performs database backups and recovery testing.
• Conducts query tuning.
• Performs database refreshes.
• Deploys DML/DDL changes to pre-production and production.
• Collaborates with other departments on project initiatives.
• Plans and participates in Disaster Recovery efforts.
• Provides mentoring to other team members in areas of subject matter expertise.
• Responds to telephone calls, email, and personnel requests for technical support.
• Serves as a positive role model by representing ARAG at its Best.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge

• Expert knowledge of Oracle database software including installation and utilities. Additional database knowledge is a plus.
• Requires working knowledge of Server/LAN communications hardware and software in a multi-protocol environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing PL/SQL objects and knowledge of scripting.
• Possess knowledge of web server products.
• Experience with Microsoft server software, scripting languages, server operating systems and environments.
• Experience with Linux operating system, RMAN, VMWare virtualization platform and/or cloud computing environments a plus.

Skills

• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, organization, time management and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with individuals at all levels within the organization.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. High attention to detail is a must.
• Business management skills including vendor relations.
• Availability to work during off peak work hours when necessary to ensure smooth operations during office hours - including on-call support 24x7.
