Roles & Responsibilities

Job Purpose: The Community Activator is a connector of people, organisations and resources. Through the lens of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), the Activator focuses on mobilizing skills, knowledge and talents of citizens or residents to collectively co-create solutions to issues and concerns that the community cares about. The Activator works alongside active residents to strengthen social connections within a neighbourhood, taking extra effort to include strangers at the fringe - the usually marginalized and vulnerable members of society - so as to collectively build community resilience and cohesiveness.

Job Responsibilities:

• Build strong relationships across the neighbourhoods that supports community building

• Identify and recruit residents who are natural connectors trusted by their community

• Conduct asset mapping with residents and local businesses as human libraries to discover the gifts, strengths and motivations of the community

• Facilitate Learning Conversations that activate residents to use their strengths and assets to contribute to the well-being of their community

• Facilitate Peace Building Conversations that help conflictual community to mature to authentic community by converging on what matters collectively while respecting diversity

• Support and resource grounds-up initiatives of residents without taking over

• Document and evaluate through reflective practice
  

Requirements:

Skills and Competencies:

• People Skills of Connection – able to relate well and earn the trust of people

• Group Facilitation Skills – able to facilitate conversations and meetings

• Resource Mobilisation – able to connect resources of people and organisations for the betterment of community

• Asset Mapping – able to discover, map and activate strengths, talents and resources of residents, local businesses and institutions

• Story Telling – able to document stories of neighbours helping neighbours
  

Qualifications :

• Relevant degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, or other relevant disciplines preferred

• At least 3 years of experience in community building or other relevant people-centred work
