Your Role
Broad based experience in corporate and commercial law matters with exposure to IT/Telco sectors, with either a leading law firm or the corporate legal department of a US-based multinational or large publicly listed company. Prior experience in the telecommunications industry is preferred, but not required. Significant APAC and/or Japan (APJ) experience. Entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to prioritise workflow based on the company’s business objectives. Candidates must be confident, commercially minded and able to communicate at all levels; this is a key role within the APJ legal team.

The new addition will be expected to be proactive and perceptive in their approach to business problems, anticipating issues and providing expert legal and business counsel. Your Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and partners, including customer tenders, sales and license agreements, services agreements, and reseller and channel distribution agreements, working closely with the Sales, Partners, Commercial Management, Product Line Management, Services, and Finance teams.
  • Provide legal and regulatory analysis in connection with new or revised entry into new markets or countries in region.
  • Assist in supervision of regional regulation and litigation matters, including management of outside counsel.
  • Assist with developing or revising regional policies or processes to ensure compliance with local legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support regional corporate activities (in conjunction with US corporate and outside counsel).
  • Provide advice and support for the regional HR team on local labor and employment matters.
  • Provide education, training and awareness for regional employees on compliance-related matters.
  • Participate in strategic projects for the Legal Department and the APJ region, as required.
  • Working in collaboration with other members of the Legal Department on the assessment of, and development of appropriate responses to, legal and regulatory change;
  • Attending, contributing to and organising legal know how and learning sessions (both external and internal);
  • Active involvement in the Company’s and Legal Department’s non-business initiatives (e.g. Diversity and inclusion, mental health and happiness and charitable works).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Law degree such as JD or LLB from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice as a legal practitioner in the jurisdiction in which they are currently practicing
  • Substantial legal experience, including corporate/commercial/IT/telco experience, with either a leading law firm or the corporate legal department of a US-based multinational or large publicly-listed company
  • Significant experience in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements throughout APJ.
  • Broad legal experience including commercial contracts, corporate, employment, litigation, compliance and privacy.
  • Fluent English essential. Japanese language/cultural skills highly advantageous.
  • Computer literate on all Microsoft packages.
