RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Counselling services
    • Provide individual and group counselling and psychotherapy sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Provide consultation to faculty and staff to support the students\xe2\x80\x99 wellbeing.
    • Conduct risk assessment and provide the necessary support and intervention.
    • Provide crisis management and intervention in collaboration with internal and/or external agencies.
    • Assist with the referral of students to internal or external professionals (eg. psychiatrists).
    • Engage with other institutions of higher learning and mental health related organisations to learn and share best practices.
  • Education and prevention programmes
    • Develop, implement and evaluate education and prevention programmes to address the psychological needs and concerns of students and to enhance the mental wellbeing of students (eg. newsletters, workshops, roadshows, group programmes).
    • Collaborate with internal and external agencies to curate programmes that promote mental wellbeing of students.
  • SMU Peer Helpers Programme
    • Provide training (conducted in-house or by external trainers) for SMU Peer Helpers to develop skills to support their peers.
    • Provide guidance and coaching to support SMU Peer Helpers in their roles.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Head MWKLSWC.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Counselling or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience, preferably in a school setting.
  • Preferably a registered counsellor with Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with clients with special educational needs will be advantageous.
  • Possess knowledge and experience in therapeutic frameworks and various social service community resources.
  • Possess multicultural competency in counselling.
  • Competent in case management, crisis management, risk assessment and safety planning (eg. suicidal ideation, sexual harassment, family violence).
  • Being resourceful, flexible and creative in developing education and prevention programmes.
  • Ability to conduct presentations, workshops and facilitating groups for students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work as a team or independently with effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
