  • Degree: Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in economics/finance/statistics/econometrics or a related engineering degree. A specialisation in energy or commodities is an advantage.
  • Work experience: three years (or more) experience analysing crude oil market and/or producing crude oil balances with an oil trading company, a consultancy, a bank, or a government agency.
  • Languages: strong fluency in English (oral and written) is a must, Chinese is an advantage, and French is optional.
  • Ability to work autonomously and engage in self-development and training.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills to process large amounts of information and data.
  • Strong communication, drafting, and presentational skills with an emphasis on synthesis and succinctness.
  • Market data: proficiency in either Bloomberg or Reuters Eikon terminals.
  • Software applications: strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, notably Excel and use of pivot tables.
  • Programming: knowledge of VBA, and Python is an advantage.
  • Data visualisation: knowledge of Power BI is an advantage.

  • Asia, Middle East Crude Price dashboards: develop daily crude price dashboards specific to the Middle East and Asia regions for the benefit of the crude trading desk. Provide comments on the drivers of outright prices, spreads, structure, and arbitrage windows.
  • OSP forecasts: develop a model to forecast Saudi OSPs (to Europe, the US, and Asia). Use Saudi OSP forecast to investigate the potential for forecasts of OSPs of other Middle Eastern producers.
  • Disseminate a weekly Middle East and Asia crude oil report: develop a report for weekly publication on the Middle East and Asia crude oil markets, reviewing recent developments and containing forward-looking statements along with trade ideas regarding key pricing relations.
  • Crude flow tracking: track imports/loadings of crude oil to Asia (notably from Russia, and Middle East producers) with a view of feeding this information to the crude trading desk and to help in the elaboration of the Asian crude oil balance.
  • Refinery activity: aid in the tracking of Middle Eastern and Asian refinery runs, and downtimes with a view of feeding this information to the lead senior oil analyst in Singapore and the global refinery analyst in Geneva.
  • China and India crude balance: develop a crude balance for China and India.
  • Contribution to research output: write the East of Suez crude section of the research team\'s weekly oil market report. Prepare, when required, slides to be included in the research team\'s monthly Global Market Outlook publication.
  • Disseminate East of Suez (EOS) crude oil market developments: communicate in a timely manner on key development in EOS crude markets by posting information (and its potential price implications) on dedicated TEAM channels and other messaging tools. Relay this information in weekly meetings with trading. Produce a weekly Middle East / Asia crude report that summarises key developments over the week.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests: respond to ad-hoc informational requests from the trading desks.
  • Relay analysis produced in other locations: ensure local awareness of the analysis produced by analysts in other regions.
  • Promote/foster a culture of inclusiveness, collaboration, and respect for TotalEnergies\' conduct rules.

  • Reporting lines: while closely working with the trading desks, the position is hierarchically independent.
  • Working to tight deadlines: Promptly and precisely update crude-related data and output to allow rapid dissemination to the trading desks and the research group.
  • Working autonomously: the person must be able to work autonomously while at the same time regularly interact with the Global Coordinator of Crude Analysis in Geneva and the Senior Lead Oil Analyst in Singapore.
  • Reactivity: In a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment, there is an imperative to react quickly and be proactive in responding to informational demands from the trading desks
  • Meetings: Participate in weekly meetings with the trading desk and the broader research group.
  • Network development: Engage in dialogue with data suppliers, consultants, and industry counterparts
