Introduction to the role

We are seeking a Delivery Lead to join The Economist Group\xe2\x80\x99s Project Management Office. The role will help plan, manage and deliver a series of projects that will transform The Economist Product capabilities. These projects will have an impact across a number of business and technology stakeholders as well as planning needs to consider significant business and technology change.

Accountabilities

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Perform the role of Scrum Master
  • Champion agile and lean best practices, and help foster a culture of continuous improvement, cross-functionality, and fail fast culture
  • Own delivery processes & governance, ensuring best practice, simplicity, and adherence
  • Coach on Agile practices, nurture positive team relationships and a collaborative working environment with a one team approach
  • Continually review and revise the end to end delivery processes of the team and their agile ways of working to ensure the team is working optimally across product, design, engineering and QA
  • Initiate and manage the delivery of initiatives across teams
  • Review and prioritise feature/change requests and analyse impact of said changes
  • Autonomously lead day to day agile ceremonies and roadmap planning
  • Use agile metrics to optimise team planning, estimation and ways of working
  • Proactively monitor progress and delivery scope, resolving issues and removing impediments throughout the full product lifecycle
  • Identify and manage risks and dependencies across the team
  • Manage communications and build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders through concise proactive communication
  • Liaise with internal and external teams to ensure requirements are understood and deliveries are being achieved efficiently and to the highest possible standard
  • Ensure project milestone are recorded, managed and socialised in appropriate forums
  • Utilise various data visualisation tools to deliver insights in a clear manner fostering clear communication between delivery teams and various stakeholder groups
  • Contribute towards regular project reporting/meetings for Senior Management
  • Work with the wider delivery team to identify areas which will impact overall performance
Experience, skills and professional attributes

Essential skills and knowledge
  • Significant experience working within B2C Product development and mobile application development domain knowledge
  • Experience of coordinating and managing dependencies across multiple teams
  • Experience of being able to manage multiple (maximum 2) software development teams
  • Strong understanding of and significant experience in a variety of Agile approaches e.g. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc. with the ability to pragmatically adopt ways of working as appropriate
  • Deep knowledge of full SDLC
  • Advanced user of MS Office/Google Suite, Jira, Confluence and project management tool skills
  • Able to assess complex challenges, apply a logical framework and present a compelling case for change
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of being able to challenge and influence decisions
  • Established leadership, time management, facilitation, and organisational skills
  • Comfortable producing detailed status reports and managing risks, issues and dependencies in a RAID log and in various project management tools
  • Ability to explain technical ideas clearly in simple terms, adjusted for the audience in question
  • Excellent coaching / mentoring skills
  • Self starter with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with teams at all stages of the maturity spectrum
  • A highly collaborative work style and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Pragmatic and flexible, with a willingness to take on different roles and responsibilities in order to successfully deliver a project
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a creative and positive approach
  • The ability to gather and interpret information accurately and to the point
Desirable skills and knowledge
  • An understanding and knowledge of publishing or closely related industries is beneficial
  • Experience of managing mobile application development within the publishing or Media industry would be beneficial
  • A high level view of technology in the workplace, ie. hardware, software and programming
  • Experience with change management and risk mitigation processes
  • Advanced data visualisation skills for reporting purposes
  • Experience of shaping, advising on, and delivering solutions
