What the role is
We are looking for an individual to lead a team of researchers to drive the centre’s efforts to build up research expertise and knowledge in areas pertinent to urban ecology and greenery. Your team will be responsible for planning, designing, and managing a diverse portfolio of applied research projects relating, but not limited to, fields in urban ecology, arboriculture, skyrise greenery, soil science, horticulture, plant health and sustainable landscaping
What you will be working on
• Conceptualise, plan, design, implement and manage a diverse portfolio of applied research projects relating to urban greenery and ecology. These research projects include those in collaboration with experts in the universities, research institutions, government agencies and industry players. • Work with partners and stakeholders to identify and anticipate problem areas where new research and scientific knowledge is required to inform policy, facilitate planning, and improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. • Formulate research project proposals and action plans to address the identified gaps. The work will require horizon scans of local and global trends in relevant areas of research, as well as potential collaborators. • Assess research project proposals and negotiate contract and agreement terms with a keen eye to prioritise national and organisational interests and outcomes. • Manage research projects to ensure that the research culminates in outcomes that will inform the centre’s strategic work and develop new knowledge and technology that will benefit the organisation, our partners, and stakeholders. • Lead and engage in scientific deliberations with collaborators and the scientific community, as well as being hands-on for end-to-end operations of the team, which include budget planning and monitoring, and progress reporting across various funding schemes and programmes. • Contribute to reports and scientific publications, and to present and articulate your work to Management and relevant stakeholders. • Build partnerships with key industry players and relevant government/public agencies to implement the research outcomes.

What we are looking for
• A PhD in urban ecology, arboriculture, and related fields. • Possess 8-12 years of relevant experience, preferably, in research, academia, analysis work relevant to the urban ecology and arboriculture domains, with at least, 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role. • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, problem solving capabilities and the ability to build collaborative relationships with partners and stakeholders. • Possess strong analytical skills, the ability to think flexibly and innovatively, good interpersonal skills and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
