  • To take on a key role within the sector/discipline, winning work, providing leadership, technical advice and leading by example where appropriate
  • To manage projects (or components of projects) meeting budgetary, quality, safety and timeframe targets, while exceeding client expectations
  • To promote and market all facets of Arcadis’ services during interfaces with clients, other sectors/disciplines and externally at seminars and conferences
  • To build and consolidate networks within the industry
  • To identify opportunities for process improvement within the discipline area
  • To contribute towards the achievement of the sector/discipline plan
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Apply Arcadis Health and Safety Principles during the delivery of work
  • Perform role in accordance with the Arcadis behavioral framework
  • Providing input into the sector strategy/ business plans, as required, and contributing towards its achievement
  • Communicating with team members to ensure that they understand, and become engaged with, sector/discipline business plans
  • Proactively managing selected projects (or components of projects), taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors, managing the production of analysis and design (including drawings and reports), ensuring the integrity of the overall design (in collaboration with other design disciplines), quality assurance and client feedback
  • Liaising with and assisting the Project Manager to ensure commercial aspects relating to the design team(s) eg. contract, invoicing, debt, client management etc can achieve a successful result
  • Liaising with the Project Manager or Director and the client to keep informed of all developments, changes/modifications associated with the project
  • Identifying opportunities and driving implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability of design components
  • Gaining a good understanding of the background of the client’s business and industry to facilitate building effective and enduring relationships and consolidating both company and personal credibility in the industry
  • Providing leadership, direction and technical advice to project team members
  • Taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential, leading by example to achieve sector/divisional goals and championing a quality, innovative and entrepreneurial culture
  • Engaging in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Arcadis.
  • Monitor the performance of team members identifying and ensuring the resolution of any issues
  • Present technical solutions to the team, Task Managers and Project Managers in Arcadis’ regional offices
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of deliverables on behalf of engineering discipline
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings
  • Keep up to date with developments in the industry sector and with technical and legislative developments and seek out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile
  • Comply with Arcadis General Business Principles and Specific Anti Corruption Standard
  • Ability to provide leadership and technical advice to junior team members
  • Ability to identify the limits of personal knowledge and skills
  • Ability to exercise sound independent engineering judgement and take responsibility for delivery outcomes
  • Demonstrate appropriate professional standards, recognizing obligations to society, the profession and the environment
  • Exercise responsibilities in an ethical manner
  • Able to communicate well with others at all levels including effective use of English orally and in writing

  • Able to deliver close compliance with Arcadis management system requirements to support delivery of design and engineering projects
  • Ability to be a key contributor to safe design practice processes which consider safety during construction, operation and decomissioning through the use of hazard identification and risk assessment during design development
  • Have a sound knowledge of relevant design codes, legislation, hazards and safe systems of work
  • Understand how to manage health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility
  • Experienced in leading, and working with, people from varied disciplines, backgrounds and cultures
  • Able to plan for effective task implementation and manage the planning and organisation of tasks, people and resources
  • Experience managing teams and developing staff to meet changing technical and managerial needs
  • Able to effectively manage quality processes
  • Have effective task management, stakeholder relationship management and commercial skills at a level expected of a professional person
  • Have a broad understanding of one or more sectors
  • Able to maintain and extend a sound theoretical approach to the application of technology in engineering practice
  • Have ability to use a sound evidence-based approach to problem solving and be able to contribute to continuous improvement
  • Able to operate reliably, independently and competently in a specialist discipline
  • Able to identify, review and select techniques, procedures and methods to undertake engineering tasks
  • Be capable of contributing to the design and development of engineering solutions
  • Able to implement design solutions and contribute to their evaluation
  • Able to provide input to estimates for the engineering budget and schedule and to oversee technical resources to meet requirements on small to large sized projects
  • Consistently exhibit the behaviors associated with the role
  • In a task management role, have sound commercial knowledge including awareness of contractual conditions and procedures
  • Have a sound knowledge of sustainable development best practice
  • Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development
Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent and formally licensed to act as a professional engineer (if required in their Arcadis GEC country)
  • Post-graduate qualifications an advantage
  • Relevant post-graduate experience, including supervising aspects of a project of significant scale and/or complexity, application of standards, managing of resources and technical knowledge
  • Demonstrated technical, commercial and delivery acumen
  • Demonstrated experience of managing inter-disciplinary design interfaces and/or projects
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally
  • Experience of seeking and securing opportunities
  • Experience of cost/benefit assessment and best value design
  • Experience of delivering designs and reports at all stages from concept through to final project and construction delivery
  • Minimum 10 years experience.
  • Proficiency in using CADD/Design (Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil3D) and experience with MicroStation/ORD a plus.
