In-market teams are agile and equipped to understand consumer needs, provide focused attention to dealers, and respond more quickly to local market conditions.Job SummaryThis position will manage the internal resources and activities necessary for the timely and effective delivery of legal services to internal stakeholders of Harley-Davidson, Inc. and its affiliates in one or more legal practice areas. The role will also oversee outside counsel and other outside resources for the timely and effective delivery of legal services. Provides guidance to legal counsel and support staff, manages outside counsel, implements tactics, policies and procedures and represents the Company with external stakeholders. Understands forward-looking business concerns, is part of solution development, and implements sound legal strategies that position the Legal Department to support their stakeholders and business strategies.Job Responsibilities

  • This position develops, recommends and implements policies, procedures and strategies for the effective delivery of legal services in one or more practice areas.
  • Provides planning and strategic leadership support to promote improvement of department operations.
  • Takes leadership role to actively support the Legal Department quality initiatives. Seeks continuous improvement opportunities within scope of responsibility.
  • Directs the deployment of internal and external resources.
  • Ensures clear team direction, provides strategic guidance and coaching and monitors progress against group goals. Develops career plans with team members to assist in their professional growth. Provides formal and informal mentoring to other staff members.
  • Manages and participates in the preparation, negotiation and interpretation of contracts. Manages and participates in the preparation and implementation of policies and practices in response to legal and regulatory requirements. Manages and participates in the preparation and delivery of training regarding legal and regulatory requirements.
Education RequirementsBachelor\'s Degree RequiredEducation Specifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree required.
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Qualified candidates will be licensed to practice law in the United States, United Kingdom or any commonwealth country, a member in good standing with a State bar.
Experience Requirements
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years related experience. Minimum of 5 years of management experience.
  • 12 years of related work experience including at least 8 years of professional experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience either supervising staff or leading projects
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills (including good listening skills) and the ability to achieve positive outcomes through influence.
  • The ability to lead and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to converse and read Mandarin with experience working on China and India matter/projects will be an advantage.
  • Organization, planning and research skills.
  • An ability to provide sound legal advice that is responsive to the business needs of Harley-Davidson, Inc. and its subsidiaries as well as responds to clients\' needs consistent with corporate strategies and objectives.
  • High level of integrity, excellent judgment, analytic skills and ability to identify all relevant issues
  • Proven understanding of legal/business interface and able to deal in complex legal and business issues that cross legal and organizational boundaries.
  • Awareness towards compliance topics and experience working with global compliance on initiatives and direction.
