What the role is
IMDA is spearheading Singapore’s drive to be a world leading Digital Economy. IMDA aims to empower our companies and workforce with digital technologies and enable Singapore to be a leading Digital Economy in the global arena. We are looking for a Director to conceptualise, develop, and implement technology strategies within our Business and Technology Group. Our group focuses on driving industry adoption of frontier technologies, such as AI/Data, 5G and Trust Technologies, and works with our research ecosystem to drive upstream research and translation at scale. The successful candidate is an experienced leader in the technology space, passionate about technology trends and innately familiar with the Research, Innovation, Enterprise (RIE) space. The candidate is excited about emerging technologies and has demonstrated experience developing national strategies and plans for this dynamic and fast-moving space. The candidate will lead cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to strengthen Singapore’s deep tech and product development capabilities, establish forward-looking strategies to keep Singapore at the cutting edge, and ensuring successful strategy execution. What you will be working on
• Own the conceptualisation, development, and implementation of our strategies and plans for technology and research, ensuring alignment to Singapore’s overall vision and approach. • Drive proactive stakeholder engagement across the spectrum to ensure our strategies, programmes, and initiatives enjoy stellar support across all quarters, including internal teams, research partners, agencies, industry, and senior government stakeholders. • Oversee the design, tracking, and timely reporting of success indicators and KPIs across the Business Technology Group. Extract data-driven insights to maximise the effectiveness of our programmes and strategies. • Provide expert advice to help senior leadership capitalise on opportunities and pre-empt risks amid evolving global shifts, geopolitical trends, international policies, and tech developments. • Advance the interests and brand of the Business Technology Group in the international arena, including representing the group at industry and academia events, participating in standard-setting bodies, and developing our brand and evangelisation strategy. • Responsible for the growth, morale, and success of the team. What we are looking for
• Holds at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, economics or related fields with at least 15 years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees preferred. • Proven track record leading teams in strategy development, corporate planning, or management consulting in a technology-oriented environment for at least 5 years. • Excellent grasp of technology and business trends, innately curious, and able to provide insightful perspectives on current affairs, global trends, and new technologies. • Familiarity with the National Research Foundation’s Research, Innovation, Enterprise (RIE) programme, including its constituent committees, policies, and processes. • Able to tap on existing professional networks to effectively engage and socialise strategies with senior government and industry stakeholders, as well as the broader tech community. • Exceptional communications and storytelling skills, with the ability to frame and articulate analyses and assessments in a clear and succinct manner. • Proven success in mentoring and nurturing high performing and motivated teams, delivering complex projects on-time and on-target. • Knowledge of economic analysis and statistical modelling for business is an advantage.
