Introduction

The Economist Corporate Network (ECN) is the emerging markets advisory service of The Economist Group. We help multinational and local companies to deepen their understanding of the politics, economics and business environment in key emerging markets. We work with them to assess risks, opportunities, trends and issues of importance and how to respond to them.

The service is delivered in many ways:

  • Through a programme of meetings that create the opportunity to hear from The Economist Group experts, from invited outside experts, and from peers within the network
  • Through private briefings delivered to clients at their management and strategy meetings
  • Through regular reports and data (covering key economies and business issues)
  • Through ad hoc research into specific business issues, markets and ideas
ECN is only for senior-level executives, and hence is also an important opportunity for members of the service to engage and network with their peers at other companies and organisations.

We are recruiting a six-month intern based in Singapore, with the possibility of extension. Please note we cannot sponsor training visas for interns so applicants must be legally allowed to work in Singapore.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:
  • Work with the ECN director to create and deliver the ECN programme in South-east Asia to a high quality
  • Undertake desk research to support the ECN research agenda and events programme
  • Source, secure and coordinate with outstanding speakers able to deliver expert insights for the ECN events programme
  • Create written collaterals, invitations and marketing materials for ECN events, to the quality and style demanded by the Economist Group
  • Assist with management and coordination of ECN research projects and events
  • Initiate phone conversations and email correspondences with thought-leaders and contributors to the ECN research programme
Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an attention to detail
  • An interest in, and knowledge of, business issues, global affairs, and economic trends
  • Excellent time management skills, with an ability to work with designated project plans on set deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills, and an ability to work in a team and collaborate with colleagues and external speakers
  • An strong ability to prioritise and be organised
  • Work experience or previous internship in business journalism/research, think tanks or consultancy is preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Fluency in English
