Your team responsibilities

MSCI ESG Research is seeking a senior ESG researcher to join our research team. The selected candidate will develop energy sector and thematic ESG research and publish content to help financial institutions understand how climate change and energy transition may impact risk exposure and valuation of different asset classes. Additionally, we expect this candidate can contribute to our organization\'s goal of strengthening thought leadership in ESG investing and climate change within APAC market, specifically in Singapore.

MSCI ESG Research clients are increasingly asking questions like these across multiple asset classes:

  • How to make my portfolios more resilient to the transition to a net-zero economy?
  • How could the energy structure transition affect company valuations?
  • What might be the trade-offs if I try to minimize my portfolio\'s exposure to physical climate risks like flooding?
  • What is the best metric to optimize for if I want to protect against climate change risks without substantially altering my risk-return profile?
The role of the ESG Researcher is to identify ESG and climate investing challenges facing our clients and work with subject-matter experts within the team to produce rigorous research with practical answers. The selected candidate will also be a talented communicator, able to convey research results and significance in a compelling way via charts and graphics, written content, presentations, and more.

Your key responsibilities
  • Develop and execute agenda of thematic and energy sector research for ESG investors and publish resulting content pointing investors toward ways to solve their key investment challenges using MSCI tools and research
  • Quantitative analysis of ESG, climate change and financial data
  • To continuously improve how we think, how we model, and how we develop tools and solutions for ESG investors globally, and support the development of new products and services related to ESG investing and climate change
  • Represent MSCI ESG Research, our research, and our tools to clients, prospects, media, conferences, etc.
  • Represent MSCI ESG Research in regional regulator engagement
  • Share knowledge, experience, and research findings internally to build team capabilities
Your skills and experience that will help you excel

SPECIFIC SKILL SETS:
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with extensive experience in data analysis and quantitative models
  • Strong understanding of institutional investing processes, including portfolio construction, portfolio management, and risk management
  • Ability to overcome analytical challenges with creative yet rigorous solutions
  • Ability to draw connections between model outputs and the real world, between data and signals and investment practitioners\' day to day needs; strong critical thinking capability
  • Ability to work collaboratively with researchers across ESG, Index, and Analytics businesses
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible way and tell a compelling story
  • Strong presentation skills, both spoken and visual
  • High motivation for joining a dedicated, technically savvy, and enthusiastic global team
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7+ years of full-time professional experience in in a related field ( ESG & climate research, investment research, financial services, consulting, industry experience, policy research);
  • Bachelors\' degree required; advanced degree in related field preferred
  • Experience with ESG analysis is not a pre-requisite, but candidate should have a demonstrated interest in how ESG issues are integrated into investment decisions
  • CFA or other relevant professional certifications preferred
  • Energy sector expertise is preferred
  • Familiarity with MSCI tools and research a plus
