Job Description


The Role Responsibilities

  • Define the overall Trade strategy for Business Banking (BB).
  • Responsible for all Trade products used to support the working capital needs of BB clients.
  • Role will require close collaboration and co-ordination with CCIB stakeholders as well as BB market heads (in addition to sales and product/segment heads) and will encompass product commercialization (including new program design and introduction), end to end governance (including adherence to Trade PPGs, fraud and operational risk framework), service delivery and developing the training and learning calendar.
Strategy
  • Develop the strategy for and manage the overall Trade offering for Business Banking (BB) clients.
  • Ensure that Trade offering in each market is aligned to the refreshed Group BB strategy.
  • Benchmark our Trade proposition against client needs and competition offerings, especially in key markets, to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Provide data driven analytics & insights to drive strategic discussions at the BB Management Team.
  • Drive end-to-end digitization of trade offerings in Business Banking.
  • Drive overall engagement with CCIB, across Product teams, Supply Chain Financing, Operations, Channels and Service Delivery.
Business
  • Assess the Trade products that are required to meet the working capital requirements of BB clients and ensure that these are agreed with CCIB and enabled for relevant markets.
  • Develop and strengthen the supply chain proposition, primarily through pre-shipment & distributor financing for key CCIB anchors.
  • Support the Partnerships team in BB, where required, in enabling trade products for Small Business clients sourced through platform/Fintech partnerships.
  • Work closely with the country product and segment heads to deliver optimal funding solutions for clients.
Processes
  • Ensure that the relevant products are enabled for Business Banking (through respective PPGs) after assessing client needs and appropriateness and taking into account the risks and mitigants for each product and variant.
  • Develop a regular operating rhythm with CCIB counterparts and key BB markets for effective strategy implementation.
  • Ensure sales and governance processes across TWC markets are in line with strategic intent as well as approved policies and procedures.
People & Talent
  • Drive the development and execution of the overall Business Banking Learning agenda for Trade products.
  • Upgrade Trade leadership, product expertise and people capabilities within BB market teams.
  • Share best practices and lessons learnt across country teams.
Risk Management
  • Understand the risk associated with various products and variants and ensure suitability for BB clients and staff.
  • Ensure that the infrastructure, processes, policies and control framework in BB is designed to appropriately and adequately manage the inherent risks in the product, keeping in mind that risk has multiple facets and goes beyond credit risk (e.g., operational risk, fraud risk, counterparty risk etc.)
  • Work closely with Risk and other 2LOD partners to increase awareness and drive the right risk culture and mindset in the BB organization.
Governance
  • Ensure that the overall risk and control framework in BB for Trade products is fit-for-purpose and working well.
  • Understand the regulatory and legal framework governing trade products.
  • Design programs, products and solutions in compliance with both internal and external policies and frameworks.
  • Work closely with Transaction Banking colleagues on product development specifically to suit BB requirements and participate in the Trade PGC to represent BB interests.
  • Engage and present to Retail Bank Product Governance Committee and other relevant forums such as CPBB Risk Committee and other forums/committees as and when required.
Regulatory & Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group\xe2\x80\x99s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Lead the Trade agenda for BB to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s Conduct Principles. Fair Outcomes for Clients, Effective Financial Markets, Financial Crime Compliance, The Right Environment.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
Key stakeholders
  • Head of Trade, Transaction Banking and his/her Leadership Team
  • Channels and other product partners, including WM/CMPS where required (e.g., TBFX)
  • BB and ME/TWC Country Heads
  • Product/segment Heads in BB markets
  • Learning and Development teams
  • Data, Digital and Analytics teams
  • Legal, Audit and Compliance, where relevant
Other Responsibilities
  • Embed Here for Good and the Group\xe2\x80\x99s brand and values in the business.
  • Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Region, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively across SCB, using values behaviours to drive overall business growth.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • 12 + years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in banking / financial services.
  • Deep understanding of Trade products and working capital financing, in a Product Management and/or Sales role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive and positive with the ability to use independent judgement and make sound decisions.
  • Good presentation, time management, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Focused, organised, tenacious and willing to challenge when required.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills.
Role Specific Technical Competencies
  • Deep understanding of Trade products.
  • Risk mindset with an understanding of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Exposure to SME/mid-market clients and their unique requirements is desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Appreciation for market specific nuances.
