The Director, Major Gifts is a key leadership role within the University\'s Advancement team. This position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive major gift fundraising strategies to secure significant philanthropic support from HNW donors. The Director, Major Gifts will work closely with university leadership, deans, faculty, and other key stakeholders to advance the institution\'s fundraising goals.
The responsibilities of this role are:

  • Major Gift Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive major gift fundraising strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors.
  • Prospect Identification: Identify and qualify potential major gift prospects from the university\'s donor database, as well as through research and external sources.
  • Donor Cultivation: Build strong and enduring relationships with major gift prospects and donors through regular communication, meetings, events, and personalized stewardship.
  • Solicitation: Lead the solicitation process for major gifts, working collaboratively with university leadership, academic units, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Gift Stewardship: Ensure timely and meaningful stewardship of major gift donors, including acknowledgment, recognition, and reporting on the impact of their philanthropy.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the major gifts team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Fundraising Metrics: Establish and track fundraising metrics and goals to measure progress and ensure the successful achievement of fundraising targets.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other university advancement teams, such as alumni relations, annual giving, and planned giving, to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to fundraising.
The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree required with professional fundraising certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in major gift fundraising or related philanthropic roles, with a proven track record of securing significant gifts.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of fundraising professionals.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with donors, volunteers, and university leadership.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies.
  • Knowledge of philanthropic trends and best practices in major gift fundraising.
  • Proficiency in donor management software and CRM systems.
