Job Description


Brief We are looking to recruit a talented lawyer of at least 7 years\xe2\x80\x99 PQE, from a top firm, to join the Firm\'s Asia Pacific Finance & Projects team, in Singapore.

Background The team advises on an interesting mix of regional projects, including many \xe2\x80\x9cfirst time\xe2\x80\x9d transactions and structures as well as those having a significant local impact in poorer jurisdictions where the needs are greater. The successful candidate would work on a wide range of project finance and project development work, focused on the energy & infrastructure sectors - mainly renewable power (such as solar or wind)/conventional power/gas-to-power, transport (roads, rail, seaports, airports), water treatment, waste treatment/waste to energy, and other economic/social PPP/PFI style projects mostly in Asia Pacific but often beyond. The work increasingly involves a number of \xe2\x80\x98green\xe2\x80\x99/sustainability/ESG related transactions as well. The clients consist primarily of major international developers/sponsors, host governments, and funders (commercial banks, export credit agencies, and multilaterals).

Examples of current work include advising the lenders on a multi-tranche dry port project financing in Laos, the developers of a large special economic zone project in Sri Lanka, Asian Development Bank (ADB) supporting the development of 2 elderly care/hospital facilities in China as well as advising the Mongolian government on the procurement of a new copper smelter. Apart from typical project financing work, we recently closed a number of transactions for ADB and World Bank/IFC involving social bonds, gender bonds, agribusiness financing in Indonesia, Cambodia and other parts of ASEAN. There are a broad range of opportunities for involvement for the successful candidate. The team also works closely with our Australian, other Asian and Middle Eastern offices to support each other on different transactions.

This is a transactional and advisory role, with a large amount of client contact and responsibility, and travel within Asia. The role includes undertaking business development and marketing activities with enthusiasm. A strong internal training program is in place to support individual lawyers achieve their career ambitions. There are very clear career path opportunities for someone keen to reach partnership.

The Candidates Required The successful candidate is ideally internationally qualified (i.e. England & Wales, Australia, etc), technically excellent but equally important commercially astute and enthusiastic about providing superior client service. The candidate should have solid commercial experience and ideally be familiar with (drafting / negotiating) finance agreements. Any experience with at least one of M&A, energy, or construction will be of advantage. Experience at an international firm is useful; so would Mandarin or Bahasa Indonesian language skills.

They will be team players with a \xe2\x80\x98can do\xe2\x80\x99 approach in addition to a strong academic background with as excellent communication and organisational skills. Someone who is flexible, versatile, resilient and happy to operate from time to time \xe2\x80\x9coutside the comfort zone\xe2\x80\x9d will do best in this role.
