Reuters is looking for a strong Desk Editor for our fast-paced, round-the-clock Global News Desk, to work on a freelance basis for three months during the remainder of 2024. Expect to work alongside award-winning journalists in a global news organisation long recognised for its commitment to accuracy and fairness.Please note, you will be expected to work some weekend and evening shifts as part of this position.We\'re looking for an experienced journalist adept at crafting and honing stories that span geographies, industries and markets; from scoops and breaking news to quick-turn analyses. Reuters news is read and seen by more than a billion people every day, from financial and professional clients to the world\xe2\x80\x99s biggest media organisations and digital publishers.We\'re looking for someone who writes with precision and is able to express complex ideas for specialist and general audiences alike, whilst enforcing Reuters high standards for accuracy, brevity, clarity, fair comment, impartiality and sourcing. You should be ready to experiment with new story formats and tools.Given this is a freelance role in Singapore, only Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents need to apply.About the Role
As Freelance Desk Editor at Reuters, you will:

• Write and edit breaking news stories to produce clean, engaging stories at speed.
• Copy edit longer initiative stories.
• Ensure every story is balanced and includes fair comment
• Collaborate with colleagues around the world

About You
You\xe2\x80\x99re a fit for the role of Freelance Desk Editor, if you:

• Have demonstrable experience as a reporter or production editor (a track record in business or finance is a plus but by no means necessary).
• Can write accurately and at speed, demonstrating superb copy editing skills.
• Have strong digital and multimedia expertise and experience optimizing stories for online search (SEO).
• Possess the ability to cover topics for multiple audiences.
• Have strong news judgment and ability to shape stories.
• Can remain calm under pressure, with the ability to make quick and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Good communication skills, strong team ethic, diplomacy and collaboration
