RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Description JERAGM Contracts is part of the JERAGM Legal and Compliance team and focuses on the preparation, review, negotiation, documentation and conclusion of LNG and Coal contracts as well as Freight charterparties. As a major player in the global LNG and coal markets, JERAGM enters into a large number of freight contracts in order to support our commodities business as well as for physical freight trading. These freight contracts range from spot voyage charterparties, time charters to long term charterparties. The charterparties will be based on various different industry forms e.g. BIMCO terms, AmWelsh 93, Congenbill 94, NYPE 46, NYPE 93 or bespoke counterparty CP formats. Increased volume of business for Freight means that JERAGM currently has a requirement for an experienced Freight Contracts Analyst/Specialist. Key Role Responsibilities

  • To review, amend, negotiate and finalise freight charterparties and ensure that the terms in the charterparties reflect both the commercial terms agreed with our external and internal counterparties. These charterparties will cover deals originated in the Asia Pacific, Europe and the U.S.
  • To work with the Freight trading teams to manage the counterparty physical contract workflow process from deal execution to final signature in a timely and accurate manner.
  • To review all freight deal recaps and ensure that the details match our internal reporting systems as well as the charterparty terms.
  • Where appropriate, work closely with JERAGM Legal on any legal or compliance issues which arises during the course of negotiations on the charterparties.
  • To liaise closely with JERAGM Freight Trading team, our external counterparties, and JERAGM Legal on all aspects of the physical charterparty trade confirmation process.


QUALIFICATIONS
Experience Required
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a (physical) commodity or freight trading environment with significant exposure to freight charterparties review, drafting and negotiation.
  • A good understanding of the physical contract transaction cycle, gained within an energy trading environment, is essential for this role. Preference will be given to someone with direct freight contract management experience.
  • Significant experience of reviewing and amending freight charterparties or similar legal documentation.
  • Familiarity with the commonly used standard industry charterparty forms for freight.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms, physical freight and shipping terms e.g. demurrage, dispatch, and common shipping acronyms.
  • Experience of working directly with the trading and legal functions of an energy trading company.
  • Familiarity with the Chinsay digital platform, in particular the ICP Freight contract management module within Chinsay would be an advantage.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels as well as external counterparty representatives.
  • Must be detail-oriented, productive and efficient.
  • Must be well-organised and comfortable working in a (sometimes) stressful and demanding work environment.
  • Strong commercial outlook.
