About the Department
The role is a key member of the Enterprise Data Governance Team which supports the Head of Enterprise Data Governance and Quality (EDGQ) in defining and operationalising the long-term vision, strategy and objectives for data governance across the Group that are in line with the Bank`s business strategy and objectives.
This is a senior, experienced professional to lead the data control and process assurance activities. The person will lead assurance capabilities around DG controls, across the data lifecycle of critical datasets in the Bank, in light of heightened expectations from MAS and internal risk guidance. Specific responsibilities include validation of data governance (both business and technical) controls, independent validation of BCBS 239 related data implementations in the Bank (MAS requirement), raising awareness and training Bank-wide process owners and data stewards on data governance best practice controls, etc, all operating at a regional level

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively support bank-wide data governance strategy and enforcement of the data governance framework, policy and procedures in line with the Bank\'s business objectives and evolving industry practices
  • Actively participate and lead cross-functional and cross-division data initiatives, including the regions, in identifying and resolving enterprise data risks, in the areas of data protection and confidentiality, data quality, metadata and overall data accountability
  • Drive enterprise-wide and group-wide initiatives to embed data governance considerations in critical business and operational processes. Collaborate with enterprise teams in business, risk and operational functions
  • Lead data governance reviews and control assessments on critical banking processes, design and recommend stronger controls to data and process owners across the data lifecycle, to ensure adherence to enterprise data governance policy and standards
  • Understand the end-to-end data landscape, including systems, business processes and data flows to support data governance reviews and assessments; develop and enhance supporting documentation
  • Co-ordinate compliance, regulatory, internal and external audit assessments on data-related topics, and follow up on mitigating actions
  • Actively contribute to the development and continuous evolution of data governance policy, processes and guidelines
  • Be an agent of change and inculcate data governance culture and discipline across the Bank\'s business and technical processes as well as across diverse stakeholders
Job Requirements
  • Background of data governance, data privacy, risk management, business operations or technology, with at least 10 years of working experience in the banking industry or equivalent, or consulting/auditing experience with strong exposure to Financial Services
  • Good understanding of data governance requirements, regulatory expectations, issue management and resolutions, especially for the financial industry
  • Possesses an understanding of how data is captured, stored, integrated (and flows) through applications/databases and consumed
  • Good understanding of operational, business and data processes, controls and risk environment
  • Strong project management and facilitation skills, with the ability to manage different stakeholders across the Bank and to navigate through conflicts with ease
  • Skilled in creative problem solving, and comfortable with handling ambiguous situations
  • Demonstrated good leadership and excellent team player who possesses drive, proactivity and curiosity
  • Strong interpersonal, written/oral communication skills. Ability to storyboard and convert ideas and strategies into succinct presentations and documentations
