Job Description


PurposeThe India Group Business Development & Marketing Manager is responsible for marketing and business development initiatives and activities related to our Global India focused legal practice, working closely with our partners in the Capital Markets, Banking, Corporate and Litigation, Arbitration and Investigation practices. The successful candidate will be working predominantly with partners based in Singapore and London and the Asia BD team members. There will be a strong focus on clients developed out of our regional practices along with multinational companies that are clients of the firm. You will also work closely with other partners based around the global network who have a client base in India as an investment priority, and/or are working with Indian clients doing business in other regions.The successful candidate will lead all business development and marketing initiatives for our Global India Group practice, working closely with the practice partners on business planning, market segmentation and client tracking, profile raising and brand development related to India clients and legal offerings.Key responsibilities and challengesOverview:Strategic planning

  • Supporting Singapore based partners, along with others involved in the India Group in the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of practice business plans and related business development initiatives.
  • Playing a key role in our development of client relationships with SEA corporate and financial sponsor clients, with a focus on our India inbound offering. This would involve client analysis and segmentation, client targeting, client management and driving efforts connected to client teams focused on such clients.
Client development and client relationship management
  • Working with partners on client plans, including identifying new targets as well as defining a strategy to win more business from existing clients.
  • Supporting the partners to develop client relationships, share information and generally raise the firm\xe2\x80\x99s profile with Indian and international clients.
  • Working with the Asia Communications & Events team, the candidate will have overall responsibility for leading client relationship development activities and touchpoints including seminars, conferences, events and thought leadership.

Pitches and credentials
  • Overall responsibility, working side by side with the Asia pitch team, for ensuring the high-quality delivery of all pitches (informal, project, panel) led by your practice/sector. Ensure all pitch and data systems are used efficiently.
  • Alongside the pitch team, managing and driving the preparation of pitches, proposals, capability statements and other client presentations materials, working in collaboration with partners, associates and trainees.
  • Capturing and analysing data (both quantitative and qualitative) on pitch feedback, using to inform and refine our bid/no-bid strategy.
Communications, PR, events, directories and internal comms
  • Overall responsibility for content/messages through the firm\xe2\x80\x99s website, directories, etc
  • Working with the partnership to ensure our key messages and positioning are well understood in the market and that we are perceived externally to have a market leading reputation
  • Working closely with the Asia comms team on defining the practice/sector brand in the marketplace, updating key messages as required and developing and executing an appropriate positioning and profile-raising plan
  • Ensuring the internal and external promotion of specific product areas, e.g. at conferences, sponsorships etc.
  • Working with the local Knowledge Lawyers & lawyers to deliver timely client material in an imaginative and efficient way
  • Ensuring the successful delivery of client entertainment, client hospitality and client events which enhance our perception and standing
  • Working with the partners, lawyers and secretaries to encourage and support the full utilisation of our CRM database and other marketing systems.
  • Implementing best practice and leading the process of drafting and creating all relevant directory submissions (Legal 500, Chambers & Partners) and award entries, ensuring delivery of, end-to-end, the directory and awards submissions for the practices
Operation
  • Ensuring first class Business Development Infrastructure (e.g. credentials, lawyer CVs etc.) is in place and efficient systems exist to capture data, analyse and report

Education / Qualification
  • University Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant professional qualifications (desirable)
Languages
  • English
Practical experience
  • Sound track record (7 years+) of relevant business development/communications and management experience, within a law firm, professional services firm or financial institution.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of working within Asian markets [including India] is preferable and an advantage.
  • Commercially minded, desire for a high level of business acumen with an overriding client-focused approach; strong attention to detail should be balanced by big picture vision.
  • Creative mind-set and knowledge of relevant practice, sectors and products, able to bring new ideas to the table.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with a diplomatic approach; impactful and assertive
  • With the ability to operate successfully at all levels.
  • Stakeholder management skills with the proven ability to influence partners and senior colleagues, and balancing Firm priorities.
  • Seasoned project manager with well-developed planning and organization skills \xe2\x80\x93 must be able to work to tight deadlines, juggle multiple projects and deliver under pressure.
