Scope of position:

Global Economic Optimization (EO) Lead is responsible in developing the EO strategy, solution framework and enabling tools to optimize the information ingestion of market news and economic data, in order to provide insights and actionable recommendation. This role would collaborate with GSM global and regional category leaders to enhance their decision- making process and to optimize the total cost of ownership for the organization

This position is responsible for selecting the right technology platform, enabling both internal/external data analytics and translate them into actionable and value generating opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of the economic and commodity market, generate insights through robust analysis of the latest price/market developments and recommend steps to leverage opportunities for a pool of procurement categories

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for market and supplier intelligent on all the relevant commodities/categories in Corning
  • Identify and build tools to capture both short and long-term market developments and recommend actions to category managers
  • Responsible for developing Should Cost Models for direct and indirect categories and identify cost drivers which impact Corning purchased goods and services
  • Synthesize news (e.g. market and geopolitical events) and quantify data (e.g. macro-economic indicators, index, price trend) to come up with tangible and usable recommendation for global and regional category leaders
  • Use Digital platforms to communicate market events and Corning impact to the category leaders and leadership so they capitalize the benefits or minimize the impact for Corning
  • Operationalize Corning EO tools, manage daily alerts so that categories leaders receive timely market news and price update
  • Evaluate and engage third party information providers as necessary for market data and information.
  • Working with third party app developer and IT department to identify and set up the required structure to enable optimal data and information distribution and continue to enhance the capability of EO App
Required Skills:
  • 15 years+ working experience designing, deploying and operationalizing global supply management processes and tools
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing MNCs in direct category management roles (chemicals, polymers, energy, metals, minerals etc.)
  • Deep Knowledge in at least one or ideally several of following commodity markets: Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals and Polymers, Metal, Minerals.
  • Strong analytical skills - should cost models, currency and commodity market analysis
  • Strong understanding of data and how to use and model it to develop and execute strategies
  • Strong digital skill set and exposure
  • Positive attitude, can-do, self-starter
  • Agility and willingness to learn new skills
  • Effective oral and written communications
  • Ability to engage and influence across different levels especially senior management
  • Creative and flexible: adapts well to changing circumstances; suggest ways to improve processes
  • Cross-cultural resourcefulness with experience in working in matrix organization
Desired Skills:
  • Experience working in a commodity consultancy firms like S&P Global Platts, Argus Dewitt, IHS, ICIS etc. or working closely with commodity consultancy firms.
  • Previous experience in positions like Business Analytic Manager, Commodity or Category Manager, Procurement or Marketing Center of Excellence in a MNCs is a strong plus
  • Exposure to digital contracting processes/tools and finance/economy application tool is a plus
