ABOUT EQUAL Founded in 2015, EQUAL is a Singapore-based charity which focuses on transforming lives through animal-assisted services. EQUAL partners with rescued, retired or adopted animals (horses and dogs) to help bring healing and support to children, youths, families, seniors as well as persons with special needs. EQUAL\xe2\x80\x99s programmes seek to empower those whom we serve by enhancing their socio-emotional well-being, self-awareness and relationship management skills through animal-assisted programmes \xe2\x80\x93 developing resilience and strengthening individuals and communities. Our headquaters is in the Thomson area and we also run a programme centre in Enabling Village at Redhill.
ABOUT THE ROLE The purpose of this role is to handle day-to-day horse care and stable operations, ensuring the wellness and welfare of horses and proper maintenance of stable facilities. Groom is to provide daily basic needs to horses such as food, fresh water, and grooming (wet or dry e.g. cleaning and clipping horses\xe2\x80\x99 coats, ) as scheduled. This includes providing good living condition to the horses through the daily maintenance and cleaning of horse stalls (i.e. replacing bedding, mucking stables), and regularly checks the areas surrounding the stable for any irregularities. Groom is to assist in the preparation of horses for Equine Programme (i.e. donning of riding equipment, grooming activity, riding, dismounting, tacking, untacking, groom and hosing down after lesson or exercise and etc.). The role of Groom also includes the maintenance of riding equipment (i.e. bridle, saddles and saddle pads) in the Tack Room besides monitoring and updating Supervisor on the supply of feed and hay stocks in the Stable Supply storage area. It is the responsibility of Groom to r egularly checks the horses and immediately reporting any abnormalities, incidents, accidents, pertaining to horses (i.e. stalls defect, water supply, feeding issue, facilities, and equipment, and etc.). Groom is required to be on-call in cases of emergencies related to the horses and responsible for cleaning and administering medications to minor wounds, cuts, abrasions, bruises, etc. as directed by the Stable Supervisor subject to prior instructions from the attending Veterinarian. Aside from the routine, the grooms must not , under any circumstances, institute any treatment/ medications that are not approved or unknown to the Stable Supervisor and the Veterinarian. Groom is to work from Monday to Sunday with 2 rest days in a week. This role reports to Stable Supervisor and works closely with the Animal Welfare & Operations team members, led by the Head of Animal Welfare & Operations. Groom is to assist in other activities/ works as instructed by the Stable Supervisor or Head of Animal Welfare & Operations.
