The Role Responsibilities
As the Group Head of Enterprise Data Governance, you will be responsible for partnering with the second line in Group Compliance for maintaining a comprehensive data governance framework across the bank. You will be accountable in the first line of defence for leading the development and implementation of data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of the bank\'s data assets. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to drive data governance initiatives, promote data quality and data management best practices, and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements

  • Drive enterprise-wide data mgmt. maturity assessment, define the current state, future state and north star
  • Lead the CDO representation at various governance and risk committee forums at group, business, and region level
  • Facilitate drafting of key papers and matters requiring attention updates at the various risk committees.
  • Partner with 2LOD functions on co-authoring of key policies and framework for enterprise data management and governance as applicable and working across the enterprise to enable friction free adoption and enablement in partnership with the various 1LOD business and TTO teams.
  • Foster a culture of data governance awareness and promote data-driven decision-making across the organization. Champion and lead maturing the Data Academy and Data Literacy capability in partnership with the HR Learning and Development team and other matrix D&A teams across the businesses and functions.
  • Lead the hosting and facilitation of the group data governance committee to drive decision-making and accountability in data governance matters.
  • Collaborate with business units and functional areas to identify critical data elements, define data domains & ownership, and enable delivery of data quality, metadata management, privacy, records management and sovereignty data risk capabilities in concert with other CDO MT members.
  • Lead the development and implementation of data governance tools, technologies, and processes to ensure effective data management and control across the matrix businesses, functions, and regions.
  • Establish data access and data sharing policies, ensuring appropriate data privacy and security controls are in place.
  • Provide guidance and support to business, data partners and IT teams on data governance principles, data management best practices, and data-related regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal audit, compliance, and risk management teams to ensure adherence to data governance policies and regulatory standards.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to data governance, and recommend relevant enhancements to the bank\'s data governance program.

  • Lead and support a change in mindset, building a culture of client centricity, agility, and accountability through standardised metrics and measurement, ensuring everyone in Operations are drivers and owners of client outcomes.
  • Set effective metrics and standards, transparently communicating them to team members, providing feedback and rewarding employees accordingly. Set the appropriate tone and expectations for the wider team.
  • Employ, engage, and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
  • Ensure the provision of on-going training & development, ensure that direct reports are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles and that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risk.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 13+ years of Extensive experience in data governance, data management, or related roles within the banking or financial services industry
  • Bachelor\'s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent experience demonstrating ability to drive across tech and non-tech domains and functions
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR, CCPA).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing data governance strategies and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with data management tools, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality tools.
  • Solid understanding of data privacy, data protection, and data security principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across different levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Professional certifications in data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, CIMP) are a plus.
