The Primary School Head of Learning Support will support students with individual learning needs to achieve their full potential and access the five elements of UWCSEA\xe2\x80\x99s Learning Programme. The Primary School Head of Learning Support will lead a team of teachers and assistants from K1 to Grade 5. The Head of Learning Support is responsible for the strategic development of this area, which includes building teacher capacity to support diverse learners and advocating for differentiation. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for embedding structures, systems and procedures to identify, monitor and review students on the learning support register, and ensure their needs are met across the curriculum.
Main Responsibilities
Teaching
Working with students in classrooms and withdrawn small groups, mainly in the areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Study Skills and Behavioural support.
Identification
Work closely with the Admissions Department to coordinate assessments for student applicants to UWCSEA who may have Learning Support needs and ensure appropriate provision is available on entry.
Contribute to placement decisions in conjunction with the Primary School Leadership Team.
Coordinate observations and assessments of students who have been referred by teachers, and make recommendations for intervention and provision.
Monitor and track standardised assessment results for the purposes of identification.
Advocacy
Assist with providing differentiated programmes for individual students and supporting classroom differentiation.
Liaise with teachers to develop and write individual education plans.
Organise and chair case conferences relating to individual children.
Ensure the smooth transition of students on the learning support register from Primary School to Middle School.
Hold regular review meetings with parents of identified students.
Administration and Communication
Manage learning support register and transition files.
Coordinate timetabling of Learning Support teachers, assistants, shadow teachers and external support providers.
Coordinate intervention and support across all learning areas.
Maintain IEP/ISPs on the College\xe2\x80\x99s online Information System.
Maintain/update the Primary Learning Support page on the College\xe2\x80\x99s website.
Manage the Learning Support budget and ordering of resources.
Attend, as appropriate, grade level, school level, student support and curriculum meetings.
Establish good working relationships with Student Support Services in the Singapore community and arrange for service providers to be based on the UWCSEA campus to work with students in the College.
Training
Facilitate and plan training and workshop sessions for teachers, assistants and parents.
Conduct presentations to parents and teachers on specific learning needs as needed.
Identify external Professional Development opportunities.

Person Specifications
A relevant teaching degree and a recognized teaching qualification or certification are expected.
Further professional qualifications in Learning Support or related fields are required.
Experience in leading a Learning Support department is highly desirable.
Previous experience as a Classroom Teacher would be an advantage.
The ability to coach and mentor colleagues and students, and strong intercultural competencies.

On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service.
The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
