Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in legal/policy, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in working on policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups or relevant industry associations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working on digital, legal or policy issues from a trade or international perspective, including in areas such as AI, data governance, cybersecurity, tax, content regulation, and free expression/human rights.
  • Experience engaging directly with policymakers on trade and international issues.
  • Ability to work and collaborate well with internal and external stakeholders, and build partnerships with third-parties and allies.
  • Ability to break down technical and policy issues for a general audience.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.

As a member of Google\xe2\x80\x99s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you\'ll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You\xe2\x80\x99ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company\xe2\x80\x99s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others\xe2\x80\x99 views and opinions, and distill and share the company\xe2\x80\x99s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Google\xe2\x80\x99s affirmative strategy on trade policy, market access, and engagement in the APAC and Emerging Markets regions.
  • Work with governments to develop policies that advance economic and societal opportunities and technological engagement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the intersection between trade policy and current and emerging technologies that enable cross-border commerce and communications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to address emerging digital barriers related to digital goods and services, hardware, and technical infrastructure.
  • Advocate for inclusion of technology-related provisions in bilateral, regional, and multilateral agreements.
