Job Description


The Role Responsibilities

  • A strong strategic communicator and people leader, balancing roles as both a player and a coach.
  • This role will lead a team that develops and executes strategic communications strategies for the domains in the Transformation, Technology and Operations (TTO) Group function, working in close consultation with the TTO Corporate Affairs Brand and Marketing team (CABM).
  • In addition to managing the TTO people and engagement (C&E) communication partners who will serve as single points of contact for the TTO Management Team (MT) members and their domains, this role will serve as a "player/coach" for the domain comms partners, working closely with the Head, TTO to ensure alignment with the overall TTO Comms strategy and priorities.
Strategy
  • Lead the C&E team in the respective domains to create and deliver communications strategies aligned to identity, culture, brand promise and strategic intent of the function and the Bank, partnering with TTO CABM team and the wider CABM network.
  • Lead and support the communication needs of the COO office in close consultation with CABM
  • Provide strategic and tactical communications advice to the C&E team on proactive communications, demonstrating an authentic leadership style, and issues management; demonstrate strong people leader skills to set clear direction to the members of the team who support their respective domain leaders.
  • Partner with other Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing teams as appropriate to leverage functional expertise and spokespeople to drive an external storytelling agenda that promotes Standard Chartered\'s brand and reputation in key areas of differentiation. These activities could include media relations, social media and thought leadership/executive engagement
  • Practice effective risk management, escalating issues when needed
  • Be a proactive and \'value-add\' member of the TTO C&E team working closely with the CABM leadership team
Business
  • Partner with the Global Head, Communications, TTO, Change and Innovation and Head, TTO Communications to build the understanding and capabilities for the C&E team to create and deliver communications strategies that drive the domain priorities in support of the TTO strategy and the COO office.
  • As point of contact (POC) for our domain comms lead and as a member of the TTO Comms Squad, play a key role in advising and guiding on the development of our communications that reinforce the employee value proposition that supports One TTO and Strategy 25 approach.
  • Partner with CABM teams to create group-level storytelling and news content from TTO as appropriate, in line with content priorities for internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop internal communications that reinforce the employee value proposition that supports One TTO, and partner with both CABM and the employer brand team in HR as needed to develop targeted communications strategies to promote our employer brand to support function-specific recruiting needs
  • Co-create, manage and communicate the corporate narrative around strategy, purpose and values ensuring that tone and messaging of TTO domain communications are aligned with the corporate narrative when we engage and communicate internally and externally
  • Escalate crisis management issues as needed, including the preparation of staff and external communications; partner with internal teams as needed on client and regulatory communications in crisis situations
  • Show creativity and adopt innovative approaches in driving engagement, considering our transformation agenda as well championing our D&I and Sustainability agenda in TTO
  • Partner with content creation teams to create group-level storytelling and news content from TTO as appropriate, in line with content priorities to drive our transformation.
  • Ensure there is coherence and consistency across programmes/campaigns with a focus on continuous improvement through measurement and data analysis

  • Build and lead a team of strategic advisors comfortable with advising senior executives; planning, delivering, and measuring strategic communications plans; and continue to develop capability and ensure delivery of short and longer-term objectives
  • Ensure selected team members have strong verbal and writing skills
  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people, and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from the team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 10+ years of experience into Corporate communication within Banking Operations
  • Experience in a Financial institution or Global Corporation of setting and delivering proactive communications strategies
  • Ability to think through desired outcomes of communications strategies and tactics
  • Ability to identify potential reputation or culture risk from a function\'s strategies, programs or communications, and to raise these concerns effectively
  • Person with strong writing skills and a strategic mindset who can adhere to adhoc requests
  • Experience in a spectrum of activities like running workshops with Leadership and developing Communication Strategy for the Bank
  • A professional qualification in a communications, brand or marketing related-subject, and/or membership of a communications professional body is a bonus
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders, including senior management and third-party vendors, across multiple locations as a People Leader
