Job Summary

SGX (Jan - Jun 2024) Spring Internship Programme

CFO Internship Programme
We have roles open in:

1) Finance CPU Tax

Brief Overview:

SGX Finance comprises various teams Financial Reporting and Tax (FRT), CFO Unit Operations and Controls (COC), and Central Procurement Unit (CPU).

FRT is responsible for (i) SGX Group\'s financial reporting, accounting, and advisory matters, and (ii) all local and overseas tax matters of SGX Group, including corporate tax, withholding tax, GST/VAT, FATCA/ CRS.

COC is responsible for (i) overseeing the risk and controls issues in CFO Unit, including the running of Risk and Control Self-Assessment program and governance of vendor managed services, (ii) finance operations such as billing, receipts from customers and procure to pay activities, and (iii) treasury support on banking, investments, and funding matters.

CPU is responsible for all procurement across SGX, supports various Units in SGX is sourcing to contract activities.

Learning Objectives:
The selected intern will gain multi-disciplinary exposure to various teams in Finance. Key learnings include:
  • Understanding and appreciation of the respective policies, processes, and control activities and applicable regulations in Finance
  • Hands-on application of understanding and the opportunity to liaise/ interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of SAP system.
  • Dashboarding for analysis.

As a Finance intern, you will have the opportunity to assist the various teams in Finance. You may assist the teams with the following responsibilities:
  • Delivery of monthly reporting pack and analysis of financial performance
  • Financial book closing for SGX Group
  • Support finance and treasury operations
  • Preparation of tax related regulatory submission and compliance work
  • Review of key controls in CFO Unit in support of Control Self-Assessment and vendor due diligence
  • Support streamlining and digitalisation of procurement and operations process
  • Participate in adhoc projects as required
Knowledge and Skills requirements:
  • To meet these objectives, you should:
  • Have good accounting knowledge
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be detailed oriented, meticulous and have an analytical mindset
  • Have a strong aptitude for learning
  • Be an independent team player
  • Be proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (required)

2) Corporate Treasury

Brief Overview:

Corporate Treasury serves as SGX\'s financial risk manager, seeking to protect the company\'s value from the financial risks that the business is exposed to. These risks include liquidity risk, credit risk, currency, interest rate risk and operational risks. Corporate Treasury performs these activities under a structured framework with established policies.

Learning Objectives:

The successful candidate will, at the end of the internship, have an appreciation of:
  • Cash and liquidity management
  • Overview on Investment Management and Liability Management
  • Risk and controls in respect of processes and transactional flows

  • Provide support to transactional execution for fund placement, fund transfer and FX settlement.
  • Provide support to cashflow forecasting with involvement in preparation and execution
  • Provide support to collateral management with involvement in preparation and execution
  • Assist in proper documentation for audit and reviews
  • Depending on opportunity set and candidate\'s performance and aptitude, he or she may have the chance to participate in projects that enhance Treasury\'s funding, investment activities and system capabilities.
Knowledge and Skills requirements:
  • Operationally and numerically inclined.
  • Analytical with problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of Python is not a must but a plus.
3) Business Partnering and Investor Relations

Brief Overview:

At Business Partnering and Investor Relations, we drive purposeful collaborations with both internal business and external stakeholders. Building on our understanding of business intelligence and investors\' expectations, we aim to provide relevant insights to enable our internal stakeholders to make better business decisions. As part of our front-line role, we actively engage the investment community to equip shareholders, investors and analysts with information of SGX\'s financial performance, growth drivers and strategic priorities to help in their investment decision-making.

Learning Objectives:

This internship is a unique opportunity to learn a very specialized area of finance and financial marketing, which will help expand a candidate\'s knowledge of exchange industry, investor communications and the financial community.

  • Conduct industry and investor-specific research
  • Assist in the content development of annual report by providing critical support in analysis of our content
  • Maintain investor-specific presentation materials, including literature kits and database updates
  • Update peer analysis report with financial metrics and market news through the use of Bloomberg and online research
  • Prepare materials for investor conferences and results briefing
  • Track and monitor relevant news and corporate developments
  • Any other adhoc projects
Knowledge and Skills requirements:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint required
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working independently and efficiently
  • Analytical and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive work habits
4) Enterprise Financial Planning

Brief Overview:

Responsible for Enterprise Financial Planning and analysis, cashflow planning, cost management and control.

Learning Objectives:

The selected intern would aid in annual budget and 3-year planning, financial analysis and be familiarized with management reporting system. The intern would also gain insight on the key drivers of the exchange business.
