Situated in the heart of the Civic District, the Gallery is housed in two national monuments--City Hall and former Supreme Court. Both have been beautifully restored and transformed into a magnificent 64,000 square metre venue.
Reflecting Singapore's unique heritage and geographical location, the Gallery presents Southeast Asian art within the global context. We work with international museums such as Centre Pompidou, Musee d'Orsay, Tate Britain, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT), and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), to positioning Singapore as a key node player in the global visual arts scene around the world.

The Community & Access (C&A) team seeks an intern with a strong interest in improving and championing accessibility in museums. Guided by the Gallery's vision of fostering an inclusive society, the team is dedicated to innovating and implementing ways to reduce access barriers for underserved communities, enabling them to have meaningful and welcoming experiences at the Gallery.
As an intern, you will support the planning, development and implementation of access programmes, as well as contribute to research initiatives focused on user-centric design and care. This role offers hands-on exposure to accessibility practices in museum programme design, alongside administrative and logistical coordination with stakeholders to facilitate the execution of programmes.
Learning Outcomes

• Acquire practical experience in nuanced and sensitive programming for disabled and neurodivergent audiences

• Develop meaningful insights into accessibility and inclusion practices in the arts and museum sector through research into global case studies

• Gain an understanding of the operational requirements behind community and access programmes and initiatives within an arts institution in Singapore

• Enhance the ability to multitask and manage diverse requirements across events planning and on-the-day execution

• Hone workplace communication and collaboration skills through working with internal teams and external stakeholders

Intern Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and administrative support for access-related programmes

• Conduct research on global case studies of access programmes for blind and low-vision visitors, as well as neurodivergent community, and synthesise findings into programme design and development

• Support the development and writing of programme content for initiatives such as (but not limited to) Hands-on Learning and Development (HOLD) Collection and Art with You

• Prepare and maintain programme logistics and materials to support smooth execution

• Manage meeting agendas and minutes

• Provide on-site support for in-person programmes at the Gallery, including community tours and learning journeys

• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate programme implementation and coordination

• Provide support for ad hoc tasks and other C&A programmes when required

Requirements

• Available to commit full-time (Monday to Friday) for a minimum of 3 months (up to 6 months), starting from May/Jun

• Currently pursuing or recently completed studies in Arts Management, Humanities, Social Sciences, or related fields

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

• Strong interest in the arts and a passion for reducing access barriers for diverse communities

• Enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds and communities

• Open to new challenges and comfortable working across different divisions

• Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and understanding when engaging diverse stakeholders

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Good interpersonal and communication skills

• Prior experience in project management is preferred

• Prior knowledge or experience in accessibility is an advantage but not required
