Job Responsibilities

Join the R&D Department with more than 200 R&D staff in ThermoFisher Scientific Singapore.

Involved in design and development of analytical and life science instrument with optics and photonics as imaging or scanning detection method. Select and qualify light source (laser, LED), lens, optical filters, optical detector, etc. Conduct experiments and optical performance testing at part and instrument level, process signal, image and data, write and present report, conduct failure analysis and investigate root cause, propose and verify solutions. Exposure to product design and development process.

Involved in development of algorithm including image and signal processing, optics design and optimization.

Investigate new concepts and technologies for new platform; investigate new R&D ideas to enhance product performance.

Design setup and tester for evaluation and investigation

Support engineering and production, failure analysis and write report

The main role will be supported engineers on feasibility studies, simulation testing and support NPI projects. Other responsibilities include:

• To provide support for design and development on R&D projects with focus on mechanical engineering.
• This involves in 3D solid model design, plastic parts, sheet metal, drive mechanism, assembly drawing and 2D parts detail drawing.
• Prepare and produce 3D printed parts for prototyping test.
• Support engineers in sub-system assembly design and testing.
• Support engineers in drafting of drawings.
• Support engineers in simulation testing/experiment.
• Knowledge of motion control and mechanism design is an added advantage.
• Support R&D projects hands-on build related activities whenever required.

Requirements

Willing-to-learn attitude

Active or proactive, self-motivated

Optics, photonics, physics or bioengineering background

Nice to have Matlab, Python knowledge and experience

We will conduct lecturing to equip you with required knowledge and skills to do the work.

Learning outcome (at least 3 points):

Get exposure and involvement in industrial R&D on how to design and develop commercial product from concept to product launch.

Experience and training in real environment on how to address challenging work and enhance troubleshooting skills

Team work

Expand horizon and understand difference between industry and academic to plan your career path.
