Job Purpose
The intern attached to the Track Infra Maintenance Group will assist the Senior Manager of Group to study the benefits and cost for introducing flash butt welding capability. The intern will be involved in:

• Researching and identifying different flash butt welding equipment manufacturers
• Obtaining machine operational life cycle cost information
• Review and redesign rail fabrication process to support flash butt welding
• Work alongside the manager to develop the budget approval paper
• Prepare tender specifications for the purchase of the capability

The intern will be given the opportunity to appreciate track systems and track maintenance work by undergoing a series of track infra maintenance classroom training as well as field attachments to oversee activities such as track inspection, line maintenance, track replacement, and ride on engineering consist. Occasional night work would be required, but the intern shall be tagged with a manager or executive engineer level partner while doing field work.
The intern shall reflect upon the field experience and try to relate how the flash butt welding can influence the different track maintenance activities being carried out.

Responsibilities

1. Report to Bishan Depot for work. Normal internship hours shall be between 0830hrs to 1730hrs
2. Work in any of SMRT depots, tracks or facilities, as assigned by supervisors
3. Occasionally partake in track work activities which will take place between the hours of 0100 to 0400hrs
4. Complete all task and assignment given to him/her by the internship supervisor

• Interest in joining the railway industry after graduation

Skills

Able to read and write in English proficiently
Good presentation skills
Possess basic MS Office skills
