Job Description

:We are seeking a journalist, who will be primarily desk-based, to develop and deliver stories for the online platform of CNA.The successful candidate will:

• Collect and assess information about newsworthy events from a variety of sources, including media releases, social media, other news outlets, tip offs and individual contacts
• Write digital news stories with text and visual elements (such as photos, videos and graphics) from press releases and other sources
• Gather and verify information through interviews, observation and research
• Utilise social media as a tool for news gathering as well as promoting stories
• Add value to articles by reaching out to relevant newsmakers for further comment and analysis
• Pitch ideas for original articles and write them, which may include newsgathering in the field
• Process some wires agency articles, making sure they confirm to CNA's style and adding relevant links, visuals and other material

Qualifications:Requirements:

• Degree in Mass Communication, Arts, Social Sciences or related areas
• Be comfortable with handling all aspects of a digital news story, including visual material
• Ability to exercise individual judgment, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
• An outstanding grasp of current issues and news, both locally and globally
• Experience of working in a newsroom, preferably with a strong emphasis on online news
• Be aware of trends in digital news and social media
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English
• Be prepared to work irregular hours, including some weekends and public holidays
