We have two exciting opportunities for Journals Portfolio Manager to join our global team! As part of our strategic expansion, as a Portfolio Manager you will be responsible for the commercial development and relationship management with key stakeholders for our Environmental Science or Life Science portfolios.

A sense of autonomy is a huge plus since this team is international and you will be working within a globally based team (UK/US/APAC). While you'll have interactions and regular meetings with international colleagues and editors, there will be times you'll have to work independently.

What you'll be doing:

  • Creating and delivering plans to grow, develop and maximize the profitability of journals in the Environmental Sciences/Life Sciences
  • Creating and delivering plans to grow, launch, develop, and maximize the impact and reach of a portfolio of journals
  • Managing a journals portfolio in your subject area, to an agreed level of revenue and profitability under the direction of the Global Head of Portfolio, exceeding/meeting targets, and objectives
  • Pro-actively managing the article pipeline to deliver against agreed service levels
  • Developing new open access journal propositions based on strong market research and best practices
  • Developing and sharing best practice around successful open access publishing within the team
  • Encouraging in-depth and long-term relationships with current and potential publishing partners to maintain and protect current portfolio and create opportunities for further acquisitions
  • Proactively commissioning content, building network of contacts and working with the Editorial team to build and deliver on commissioning plans to drive articles, special issues, and commissioned content to your journals
  • Maintaining a strong external focus e.g. attending conferences, editorial board meetings etc. creating profile and relevant networks to increase subject and customer knowledge and understanding
  • Building, maintaining, and sharing thorough knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on new journals and existing journal development
  • Coordinating budgets, preparing financial projections, and leading the overall financial performance of the journals
  • Representing the team and Taylor & Francis at external meetings and conferences as the need arises, both virtually and physically
Qualifications

What we are looking for:
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of Journals to meet business growth objectives/or equivalent
  • Good subject matter knowledge and ideally proven experience in developing journals within the Environmental Sciences/Life Sciences
  • A background in the Environmental Science/Life Sciences would be a bonus
  • Experience of working with internal departments, publishing partners and Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and Section Editors to effectively manage copy flow
  • Proven experience of interpreting and applying insight from data on submissions, accepts, rejects, and other pipeline and financial data
  • Being able to demonstrate understanding of the issues currently facing scholarly and academic publishing
  • Commissioning experience would be ideal for our subject lists
  • Project management experience and client relations experience from other industries or academia would also be advantageous
  • Strong team-working skills, ability to collaborate, work with proactively with others, and to share knowledge and best practice
  • Experience of working across departments within a dynamic, international organisation
  • Resilience, self-reliance, and resourcefulness, to drive customer and commercial value
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, presentation and written
  • Willingness and motivated to travel to and participate in external events and networks

Location:
  • Being a global company, we currently have capacity for this role to be based in either of the following locations: Singapore, Japan, South Korea, UK, US. However you must have the right to work and live in the region you reside in.
