The Role and Requirements:

Seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Physical Education teacher to join a dedicated team of professionals in the Junior School. The successful candidate will be required to teach KS2 Physical Education (ages 7-11) and contribute to the extensive after-school Co-Curriculum programme. The appointee is engaged to manage Physical Education in the Junior School. The role reports to the Head of Junior School through the Deputy Head of Junior School.

  • Leading the Physical Education Curriculum in Junior School: producing, evaluating, developing and updating curriculum policy documents and schemes of work, guiding and monitoring their implementation.
  • Liaising with Heads of Curriculum/Heads of Year to develop cross-curricular links.
  • Managing in conjunction with other teachers in the department forms of assessment and record keeping.
  • Ensuring effective communication systems with PE Specialists, class teachers and parents are maintained and developed.
  • Organising and arranging a programme of staff inset.
  • Ensuring that health and safety requirements are taken heed of in lesson planning and delivery.
  • Managing the organisation and arranging House competitions and events.
  • Organising and arranging occasional initiatives (which may include presentations to staff or parents).
  • Resourcing the Junior School within an allocated budget and maintaining an inventory of equipment, and ensuring such equipment is maintained.
  • Working closely with the Heads of PE for Infant and Senior schools in order to ensure continuity and progression throughout the two schools.
  • Promote and recognise achievement in PE across the Junior School e.g. awards, assemblies.
  • Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Requirements:
  • Qualified teacher with a B.Ed, degree + PGCE or equivalent, with QTS
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience
  • Primary PE leadership experience preferred
  • Secondary PE teachers with KS2 experience welcome to apply
  • Outstanding practitioners from either a state or independent school background
  • Knowledge of the English National Curriculum is preferred but not essential
  • A dedication to co-curricular activities
  • An interest in developing your own learning through academic research and reading
